Actune is it Worth Using for Your Acne

Lady Dee
If you ever had teenage acne, you know the about, the teasing, and depression that came with having bad complexion. Accutane was supposed to help relieve teenagers of this problem. They take the medication, watch the diet, and get regular blood work, Hcg testing for girls, because the medication can cause birth defects if they get pregnant. Lipid and liver tests are also preformed, because it can cause damage and an increase in triglycerides. It is clearing up the faces of the teens who use it.

With its undoubting success at battling even the toughest cases of acne and ever-growing popularity among teens as a miracle drug, why is Accutane still considered the most controversial pharmaceutical on the market? The answer: a documented list of severe and sometimes permanent side effects.

This powerful oral acne medication is being fingered as a depression trigger in mice who were given the drug in recent studies.

According to an article on about.com:
"Some people are calling for the banning of the drug, citing the number of Accutane patients who have committed suicide. From 1982 to 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed 173 cases of suicide among persons taking Accutane in the U.S. As a result, the agency urged pharmaceutical giant LaRoche, makers of Accutane, to include in its labeling stronger warnings about possible mental side effects of the drug."

Accutane (also known as isotretinoin) is an acne medication manufactured by Roche Pharmaceuticals. Accutane has come under scrutiny by the Food & Drug Administration due to psychiatric side effects, including birth defects, lupus, inflammatory bowl disease and suicide. Class action lawsuits are being set in motion by various law firms. Hoffman La-Roche was aware of these side effects in 1982, when the FDA approved Accutane for the US Market but the FDA gave it a Category X rating which means that it had been shown to cause birth defects in animals.

My sister has very bad acne, she has the type where it is pimples on top of pimples. When she wanted to get Accutane, this was long before the news was coming out about how dangerous this drug really is, her doctor refused to give it to her and put her on a different type of cleansing and diet routine, along with topical medication. In fact her doctor told her that she thought that it was dangerous, and didn't trust the medication and said that one day it will be pulled off the market. Shortly after that many other doctors in Pennsylvania also refuse to prescribe the medication. Causing patient to go to Ohio if they want to find a doctor to prescribe it, as one patient told me, she wanted the pills, and could not find a doctor in PA to prescribe it, so she went to Cleveland Clinic.

There is in fact a long list of serious side effects that have been reported due to the use of Accuttane which persisted even after the drug therapy was stopped. Among those are: Severe aches and pains in the lower back and large joints, severe allergy reactions that include moderate rashes and difficulty to breath, vision problems, hearing loss, permanent liver damage, persistent migraines and headaches and skeletal hyperostosis which is an excessive bone growth that occurs along the sides of the spine.

I allowed my son to use this, and we had great results. At the monthly checks, the doctors were VERY good about asking about depression signs.

He is done with Accutane now and is doing wonderfully. I think that it all depends on the person.

Sorry your sister had such a rough time with it.
