Actvision Trying to Sell Five High Priced Games This Fall

Otter
Activision is the biggest third-party publisher in the entire gaming industry thanks to hit titles like Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. Being the top dog is also a target for many criticisms. One of the biggest complaints against Activision has to do with the way they price their video games. While most video games are selling at $49.99 (Nintendo Wii) or $59.99 (Playstation 3 and Xbox 360), Activision games are usually priced higher due to the inclusion of plastic accessories. This fall alone, they have five games that will be priced high.

Band Hero Band Kit ($199.99)
The sudden rise of Activision is the direct result of the ever growing popularity of the Guitar Hero series. They are further milking the series with Band Hero, a spin-off of the band gameplay in Guitar Hero: World Tour. Instead of rock and metal songs, Band Hero features modern day music hits and classic songs. It is pretty much Guitar Hero for a more casual crowd. As such, the full Band Hero Band Kit will be priced at an expensive price tag of $199.99.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition ($149.99)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which is one of the best-selling games ever. Activision is hoping to make a bunch of money off of the loyal fan base of Modern Warfare by selling one of the most expensive collector's editions ever. For $149.99, you will get a copy of the game, a voucher to download Call of Duty Classic, an art book and a night vision goggle with its own standee.

DJ Hero Renegade Edition ($199.99)
Conquering the rock and metal world weren't enough for Activision. They are looking to expand their music video game empire with DJ Hero. The upcoming spin-off of the Guitar Hero brand comes with a turntable accessory. Those willing to shell out $199.99 for the DJ Hero Renegade Editionwill get a special carrying case in addition to a 2-CD music soundtrack featuring Jay-Z and Eminem.

Tony Hawk Ride with Skateboard ($119.99)
Tony Hawk used to be one of the biggest franchises for Activision. However, it has been fading lately. To revitalized Tony Hawk, Activision decided to developer a new plastic controller for Tony Hawk Ride. However, this bumped up the price for the game to $119.99. It should be interesting to see how Tony Hawk end up selling when compared to the rest of the series.

Guitar Hero 5 Guitar Bundle ($99.99)
Finally, the series that started all the plastic instruments expensive bundle craze returns once again this fall. Guitar Hero 5 will be released as a standalone game for regular price or bundled with a guitar controller for $99.99. While the price tag hasn't affected sales much in the past, the bad economy could be a problem for this and other Activision titles.
