As you might recall these are the blood cells that usually fight infections, but when the cancer is present the white cells which are immature and do not fight infections. Instead, they wreak havoc on the body and make the patient extremely ill.

There are so many of these white blood cells released into the body that they crowd out the normal healthy red blood cells and platelets the body requires to keeping doing what it was designed to do. Platelets help to control bleeding and low counts of these means cuts and scraps heal slower. It also helps to form clots without clots the patient is exposed to uncontrolled bleeding.
