Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta Rock Out on Rock Theme Night

Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta Find Their Happy Place

Demetria Dixon
His Sweet Spot

In case you were wondering if Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta's rock chops were all for show; last night you've dissuaded you of any such notion. As if Adam hadn't already come into his own throughout the breadth of the competition, he proved that rock music is definitely a sweet spot.

Sporting a chopped edgy hair style and his artfully applied eyeliner, Adam Lambert belted out Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", with the confidence, visage, swagger and sneer of a young Elvis. Unlike the unfortunate screech fest that Danny Gokey put on, Adam Lambert's vocals were smooth and as Slash said "effortless". He makes it look easy.

Nothing to Cry About

Allison Iraheta was born for this night. She is destined to give her body of work that rock edge that is uniquely Allison Iraheta. She did not disappoint last night. Most everyone who gave it a thought, felt Iraheta was made for a Janis Joplin song. Allison Iraheta delivered Joplin's "Cry Baby" complete with a bluesy rock vocals tinged with an emotion that belied her seventeen years.

Simon complained that the performance was too soundalike but, honestly, who cared. Still coasting off the fumes of Adam's performance, she sounded like the rock goddess she is. Allison put herself into the obviously capable hands of Adam Lambert's hair girl and the results were razor cut extensions that completed Allison's transformation into a rocker chick. Her homage to Joplin proved Iraheta is the real deal. Allison's got nothing to cry about, she's holding her own.

Born to Be Mild

Kris Allen is a lot of things. He's innovative, talented, a great singer, an artful performer, a cutie patootie and my favorite idol contestant. One thing he is not, is a rocker. Goodness knows he gave it a valiant effort but the word that comes to mind is anemic. It was a passable performance and perhaps if it had not come on the heels of Adam and Allison's dynamic solos and he and Danny Gokey's less than dynamic duet. Honestly, I didn't really care for the format of last night's show. It felt rushed and disjointed.

Simon compared Allen's performance to eating ice. Honestly it was more like eating ice cream after the spicy fare of Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta. Kris chose the Beatles "Come Together" display his rock skills. There were more choices he could have made. Maybe he could have done something with a Lenny Kravitz song.

Kris Allen could be in danger of elimination tonight. Allison Iraheta came through and if the voters get behind her who knows what might happen.

The Screech Heard Round the World

Kris Allen was not the only Idol to have a bad night. Danny Gokey, known in the tabloid press as "Karaoke Gokey" tried really hard and as several screechy vocal passes proved, he may have been trying too hard. Danny Gokey favored us with his rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On". It was not the highlight of Danny Gokey's time on American Idol. When reaching for Steven Tyler's classic high note Danny drew back a nub.

Though heavily favored throughout the competition Danny Gokey's solo performance may place him in jeopardy on tonight's results show.

Milder Together

Danny Gokey and Kris Allen teamed up for Styx's "Renegade". Styx is one of my all time favorite rock bands and again Allen and Gokey did a pretty good job. While their harmonies were sharp, it was unfortunate that they had to follow the rock stylings of Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta.

It's a safe bet that Danny or Kris won't be dropping any classic rock albums. The two are massive talents but they just don't have they built rockdar of Adam or Allison.

Everyone's been touting a finale bill of Adam Lambert versus Danny Gokey but Lambert v Iraheta may be on tap.

Nice write up. It was a shame Allison was sent packing given she is a lot better singer/performer than Kris and Danny. Oh well. Adam should win:-)

Hi - I was pointed toward your article when I posted my own on Allison's elimination last night! That blew my mind! But I wrote about how they DID consider Kris as the dark horse.

I'm in total agreement with Mari. The screech heard round the world, except in those moron-in-denial Gokeyheads, should have gotten him booted. Did not happen, as we've seen and as I predicted. He's got to many people out there listening to his story (dead wife, dead grandpa) and not listening to him sing (dead on karaoke). He's been by far the worst since Lil Rounds left (and was as bad as she a couple weeks)...

As Gokey started to SCRRRREEEAAMMM the last note, Paula who was dancing, sat abruptly soo scared of that Friday the 13th screaming note. Kara tried so hard not to burst out laughing while Randy was giving the critique. It was crystal clear Gokey was delusional to think he can get away with it. His arrogance shows that his belief in himself not accepting it was bad as Simon says that h

e has to watch it again. I don't know if his smugness is due to immaturity he thinks the world is at the palm of his hand being pimped always by the judges even last night no matter how bad he did. Or he is just shallow, that his solid voting blocks get into his head, he thinks he's on top of the world. Get real, Gokey. You're not great. You're only one dimensional.

Hahahahahahaha!!! Hehehehehehehe!!! Hihihihihihihi!!! Hohohohohohoho!!! We were all dying of laughter at horrible Gokey!!! He was trying to clone Adam as he himself said he's been learning from the performance of some one he didn't want to name. Everyone already has a clue who.
And last night he confirmed it and trying so hard: from looking and following the camera, to the swagger in the stage, to the conducting the band, trying to thank the band (with hand gestures when Ryan was talking with him and Kris), the handling of the mic, and the almost kneeling while mimicking the signature "passaggio" of Adam!!!
But OMG! What HORROR!!! What a DISASTER!!! He totally completely failed miserably! It's the scream from Friday the 13th and Silence of the Lamb! We could not stop laughing.
    Hahahahahahaha!!! Hehehehehehehe!!! Hihihihihihihi!!! Hohohohohohoho!!!
