Adam Lambert AMA Video: A Bizarre AMA Performance Video Deemed "Controversial"

The Adam Lambert AMA video is very popular. The video depicts him kissing men and performing pseudo-sex acts on the American Music Awards stage. The 2009 American Music Awards performance is so controversial that it is causing outrage in certain demographics. Vicious defenders of Adam Lambert contend that the media is full of unfair double standards.

Parents with young children that watched the AMA awards were outraged to see Adam Lambert kissing another man. They were also outraged to see the former American Idol contestant rub another mans head in to his crotch. Although many scream "double standard", Britney Spears and Madonna - two women - received the same criticisms as Lambert during their 2003 VMA smooch.

Other individuals understand that he likes the shock factor. Although the acts themselves may not have bothered these individuals, some think that his actions were not appropriate for network TV. Perhaps Adam Lambert's performance would have been better suited for the Adult Video Awards or a late-night HBO special, but not network TV and definitely not during the prime time slot.

Lambert's fans are outraged about the outrage. They say that the world is full of double standards, and that Adam Lambert is receiving criticism over his performance and subsequent video only because he is a gay man. They say prime time shows such as "Desperate Housewives" feature sexual innuendos that are just as strong - if not stronger - than Adam Lambert's performance.

He went on the defensive. According to CNN, Lambert states "I feel like women performers have been pushing the envelope, especially, for the past 20 years. And all of the sudden a male does it and everybody goes 'Oh, we can't show that on TV.' For me, that's a form of discrimination and a double standard. And that's too bad."

Will he join the ranks of Carrie Prejean and push the discrimination envelope a little too far? Is he a Prima Donna? Is all of this controversy just to drum up interest in his upcoming premiere album debut?

I think Lambert is over-reacting. Prime time network TV has had a host of events that have been highly controversial, including the VMA smooch and the Janet Jackson Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. If any performer learns anything from these past events they should know that the public in general is not going to be receptive of these types of performances.

The Adam Lambert AMA video will go down in history. People will watch it for years to come, speaking about Lambert as the "American Idol" runner-up that kissed a man at the AMA awards.
