Adam Lambert AMA Video: "Outrageous" AMA Performance Video Goes Viral

You're Going to Love it or Hate It, but You Definitely Have to See What Everybody's Talking About

Haven't seen Adam Lambert's AMA performance video yet? No worries; it's captured forever. For those who missed the Adam Lambert American Music Awards live performance of "For Your Entertainment" Sunday evening, there's always YouTube (and all those other video media outlets). If J Lo hadn't fell down during her AMA performance, Monday would have been all about Adam Lambert's AMA performance. Headlines everywhere screamed he went too far, that his performance was tres objectionable, that he stepped over the line, that he fell, that he sucked, that he was tasteless...and on and on. So, for everyone who was otherwise engaged during his 10:55 p.m. EST performance at the 2009 American Music Awards, the video can be found everywhere online so you too can see what Adam Lambert did that was so terrible that it has everyone from Elisabeth Hasselback to Joe the Viewer commenting...

The Associated Press reported that Adam Lambert's sexually provocative performance -- he kissed his male keyboardist directly on the lips and simulated fellatio with a dancer -- generated over 1500 complaints to ABC, which aired the 37th Annual AMAs. ABC executives insist that the number is quite "moderate," that they've had far more complaints for programs over the years.

"It's going to be sexy, I think," Adam Lambert told MTV News prior to the performance. Many seemed to think the AMA performance fell more on the side of raunch. It was definitely risqué. But artists like Madonna had had performances that many believed crossed the line of appropriateness at past AMA ceremonies. Adam Lambert said before the show that he wanted to break down that double standard barrier.

Lambert told CNN backstage after the "For Your Entertainment" performance that the hip-thrusts and the several seconds-long kiss with the keyboardist were not rehearsed but done "in the moment." He said, "Adrenaline is a crazy, crazy feeling" and that "when you're up there and all of the sudden you just have these feelings, this rush that comes over you."

"I do feel like there's a bit of a double standard in the entertainment community, on television, on radio," Lambert told CNN. "I feel like women performers have been pushing the envelope, especially, for the past 20 years. And all of the sudden a male does it and everybody goes 'Oh, we can't show that on TV.' For me, that's a form of discrimination and a double standard. And that's too bad."

Adam Lambert, who is openly gay, may have crossed the line for some but there are just as many -- or more -- who found the performance provocative and exciting (like Perez Hilton). That his performance surprised and shocked more than a few goes without saying. But with all the condemnation and defending, the performance and the video have become a viral topic. And if it is one thing that has been learned over the years, controversy sells.

Adam Lambert's AMA performance (and video) of "For Your Entertainment" has definitely become controversial. And the glam singer has thrown down the gauntlet. On his Twitter account, he wrote: "All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity. Fans: I adore u."

Was it sexy? Depends on who is asked. Did it break the double standard barrier? Doubtful, but it did not hurt to make the attempt, because, either way, Adam Lambert's AMA performance video is worth seeing, if for just the sheer entertainment value of it. Defend it or condemn it, as far as promotional value is concerned (and the American Music Awards are nothing but a promotional event), the Adam Lambert AMA performance and video have done their job -- become a matter of interest.

Im am all for people keeping their clothes on and keeping their sexual this and that at home, in their bedrooms. BUT, this young man is a performer and he has not done anything that Madonna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, etc etc etc, have done. Seriously he is gay male and bigoted Americans are making a stink for that reason and that reason only. I went to Carls Jr a while back, bought a meal with a large beverage and on my cup were women in bikinis and such. I am sick of the double standard, Adam Lambert is a talented and attractive young man and he should celebrate that talent in anyway he deems. I you like him support him, you dont then dont support him, but shut up with all the craziness cause you are only bothered by it because he is not some half naked woman getting plowed by a dude on stage.

HIS PERFORMANCE WAS JUST A SYMBOLT OF HIS BELIEFS AND IF YOU DIDN'T WANT YOUR CHILDERN TO WATCH HIS PERFORMANCE SO DON'T LET YOUR FAMILY WATCH TELEVISION!

It doesn't matter is the performer is straight, gay, bi, male, female or whatever. These performances are totally inappropriate, especially for network tv. If you want to behave this way do in a private adult club or your own bedroom. Adam's performance was disgusting and desperate. The female performers that have done these sexual antics are desperate as well. Adam hadn't even released an album yet and other then appearing on Idol, he's not an established artist. This was an opportunity of a lifetime to showcase himself to a world wide audience. There are young people that voted for him based on his performances on Idol. To have him basically say 'F You' to all these people that voted for him was a disgrace! Also, what was up with him flipping the bird at the audience at the end of the performance? They had to edit the west coast version so most people didn't even get to see the most offensive parts of the performance. What a major disappointed and loser he turned out to be

Im sorry, but I totally think that its wrong! even the whole madonna, with christina and britney. Its so ok if he's gay but why put it all out there? I think this is more apauling for parents because this channel was suppose to be a family channel and why would we want our children to see two men or women kissing?..I dont know about you guys but I certainly would not know how to explain such a thing.I mean im all for gay rights but its just something that I do not want to see! im very saddened at the fact that as generations pass we are losing our morals and there are other ways to put yourself out there and get attention if he's that talented, trust me an artist will find a way to do it in a tasteful manner.Thank god that I did not tune in because I wouldnt of wanted to see my 9yr old's expression on that.

I dont see what the big deal is. People complain about everything. Get over it!

  • Helen11/24/2009

Ok first of all, why does it matter that he kissed a guy?
He is gay, and we already know he likes to go outside the box with his performances.

I think people should just leave him alone.

I don't know...I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I'm usually the first person to get out there and shock people with stuff that's usually a little on the questionable side. And I have absolutely nothing against same-sex relationships or whatever. I voted for Adam a billion times on Idol and I'd do it again. But seriously? Was it really necessary to go so incredibly far? Not even the kissing, but the entire song. The choreography and the set up were just ridiculously over-the-top in a 'You ought to have known people were going to complain' sort of way. It really strikes me as more along the lines of who didn't already see this coming? I love Lambert, but there's a big difference between 'pushing the envelope' and purposefully pissing people off...
