Adam Lambert Appears on "Regis & Kelly Live" May 27

Adam Lambert Appears on Talk Shows in New York City This Week

Adam Lambert graced the stage of "Regis and Kelly Live" on Wednesday, May 27 at about 9:30 a.m. Since the show starts at 9:00 a.m. that meant a whole 30 minutes of anticipation, building up to the moment Adam Lambert walked on stage. He did not disappoint.

Adam wore a crisp white shirt, skinny black tie, a great black jacket, black boots and skinny, tight black jeans with a belt and buckle. His smile lit up the room as he strode onto the stage amidst screams and extended applause from the audience. As the audience continued to applaud, Adam chuckled in that certain laugh of his, always pleased and perhaps still a bit surprised at the amount of attention he gets. Kelly Ripa was obviously struck by Adam Lambert and very glad to have him as a guest on the show.

While Adam Lambert grew up in San Diego, he mentioned that he was actually born in Indianapolis and lived there for a year before his family moved to San Diego. Regis asked Adam Lambert about his early experience as a child in the theatre. Adam said he played Linus in a children's theatre production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" at the age of 10. In that same children's theatre in San Diego, Adam Lambert also starred in "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Peter Pan".

Regis asked Adam about who influenced him musically as a youngster. Interestingly, the first concert that Adam Lambert ever attended was a Paula Abdul concert. He said he listened to Paula Abdul, an American Idol judge, so much as a kid that he practically wore out one of her cassette tapes. Other singer-performers that influenced Adam Lambert were Michael Jackson and Madonna. Asked if his family was musical, Adam said that his dad was a DJ and that through his dad he was introduced to some of his favorites, such as Led Zeppelin and Queen.

When Regis, Kelly, and Adam Lambert started talking about his meteoric rise on American Idol, Adam said that he auditioned at just the right time in his life. He had thought about it before but never did it until he was prodded and encouraged by the cast of "Wicked", with whom he was playing in Los Angeles. Although he lived in L.A. he flew to San Francisco, where his mother lived, to audition for American Idol.

Adam Lambert went on to say that, "Things just come up at certain times" in your life, and that American Idol happened to him just at the right time. He said that Idol was a "skyrocket to success" and that he focused on performing for the audience, not on competing. Any competition was with himself, to improve and do better with each performance, said Adam.

Adam mentioned that musical theatre was not his only experience in music, and that he had much more diverse musical skills than just Broadway-type productions. American Idol pigeonholed Adam Lambert as being "theatrical" and a musical theatre performer from the start, but Adam noted that he had also been in a rock band ("Citizen Vein") and wrote music.

Adam Lambert certainly made an impression on American Idol viewers when it came to style. He dressed specifically for each song he sang on Idol, wearing a suit for Rat Pack Week and wearing rock 'n' roll garb for Rock Week. Asked if he had a stylist, Adam said that he loved shopping and did his own style choices. He said he likes Alexander McQueen, the sometimes-shocking designer and stylist. Adam said that he has also been influenced stylistically by David Bowie.

Adam Lambert then performed "Mad World", perhaps his most well-liked song, judging by iTunes sales. Adam has such a mesmerizing quality, demonstrated in this moody song. The vocals were, as usual, flawless, although the piano accompanist seemed to drag a bit, perhaps slowing Adam down.

While Adam Lambert is in New York this week, he will also appear on the "Today Show" (NBC, 7:00 - 10:00 a.m.) tomorrow, Thursday May 28th, and on "Larry King Live" (CNN, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m.) on Friday, May 29th with the top 13 from American Idol.

Kris Allen appeared on the show the day before Adam, and he sounded so much BETTER than any of his appearances on Idol, and worthy of the title. Still, for me nothing tops Adam's "Mad World." Say - I got a notice about only one of your articles in the last 5 or 6 days - didn't even know you had written this much. My latest one didn't get sent to anyone either.
