Adam Lambert is 'Born to Be Wild'

American Idol 2009 Top Seven

Adam Lambert performed 'Born to be Wild' by Steppenwolf from the movie Easy Rider in his own usual glam, punkish Adam Lambert sort of way.

Whether you are a fan or not, one thing is certain, Adam Lambert is definitely interesting and interesting is what separates the extraordinary from the one hit wonders. Steppenwolf's 'Born to be Wild' may not have always been the mainstream classic that it is today and neither is Adam Lambert.

This season of American Idol has for some reason, a pack of regular, ordinary performers that are easily interchangeable with performers from previous seasons. Adam Lambert is not one of them, thus the reason for his celebrity. The accessories-nail polish and unnaturally colored hair are the things that have separated the top performers from the ordinary and uninteresting, take Allison Iraheta for example. Like it or not, it is the artists with that something different that intrigue us and are around for longer than one cd.

Adam Lambert's punk, glam style isn't for everyone, just as the genre of music is not on the average person's playlist, but it was clear from his performance of 'Born to Be Wild,' that Adam Lambert is a talented, mysterious, mysteriously talented kind of guy that reminds us of the art of song. Watching him perform makes one forget that they are watching a bunch of average, every day kids on American Idol. (Come on, can someone please do something different for once?) He carries himself like a rock star, looks, and grabs the audience's attention like a rock star. If you caught that last note of 'Like a true nature's child, we were born, born to be wild, we can climb so high, never wanna die..." you know he has it.

Simon Cowell mentioned that it reminded him of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and there is a bit of truth to the comment. Simon also noted that the performance would 'probably not be as popular as last week's' referring to Adam Lambert's perfect rendition of Mad World (after all he did get a standing ovation) and the performance was a little more mainstream. Yet, when asked, Simon Cowell added simply that he loved the performance. If the least likely person on earth to listen to anything punk or hard rock says they loved it, then Adam Lambert accomplished something.

Adam Lambert may not win American Idol with his performance of 'Born to be Wild', but it won't be because he isn't qualified. At this point, it would be because America just isn't ready for the talent and art of Adam Lambert.

Loved this post. Very smart and so true! Adam is above all the other contestants. It's too bad for them to be in a Lambertin season. It's just that everyone else is so average compare to Adam. If he won't win, no more Idol seasons for me!!

You are absolutely right! Adam Lambert is in a league of his own. If he is doing a ballad or a rock song, he definitely brings it! Tonight my heart was racing while he performed, it was pure Adam!! He does deserve to be the next Idol!
