Adam Lambert Brings Down the House with His April 7 American Idol Performance

Gerald McConway
Adam Lambert made his appearance on the stage Tuesday, April 7, for his American Idol performance by simply sitting in a chair and belting out "Mad World."

It was all that was needed because he was far and away the best performance of the night. He took a leg up on Kris Allen tonight as the leader of the competition and it wasn't even close.

The entire episode tonight was like watching a really bad night of karaoke except for about three performances. This was one of them. Adam Lambert continues to be a mystery to me, but if continues to sing like he did tonight, this is a two horse race and he is pulling away down the stretch.

Personally, I think he is at his best when he is singing versus screaming lyrics when he goes into rock mode. I think he would be better off picking rock songs that he could bring his personality to without the need to scream like a metal singer that is out of control.

In actuality, I think tonight reminded me of a metal concert when they slow it down for a ballad every now and again. The arrangement of the song was incredible and his vocals made it stand out above all of the other performances that were given tonight.

His performance was so strong that I saw something that I don't believe I have ever seen at this stage of the show. Simon merely stood up and gave him a standing ovation. Adam, it was well deserved and you have left little doubt that you will be on the final show of the season.
