Adam Lambert Emerges an American Idol Star with His Quiet, yet Powerful 'Tracks of My Tears'
Lambert Rises to "star" Status and Earns a Standing Ovation from Smokey Robinson
While most of tonight's American Idol contestants did a fine job during Motown night, totally original Adam Lambert leaped above and beyond his competition, and emerged the true star of tonight's show. Looking fantastic with slicked-back hair, a clean face and a handsome grey suit, Adam took an unusual approach to a traditional Motown song, which paid off "big time" for this extremely talented contestant. Adam's performance of "The Tracks of My Tears" both surprised and awed the judges, and was his most admirable performance of the season. Instead of performing the song as originally performed by Mr. Smokey Robinson himself, Adam took a risk by keeping it quiet, yet powerful, with just a hush of background music. Rather than go for the big notes and rifts, Adam chose to keep it toned down and simple, yet the effect was oh so powerful. His amazing performance earned Adam the highest judges' comments of the evening, with all of the four judges unanimously agreeing that it was THE performance of the night. With unusual reverence, Simon stated, "You emerged a star. Congratulations." The original performer, Smokey Robinson, rewarded Adam's excellent performance with a standing ovation, his only one of the night.
Adam Lambert continues to amaze American Idol audiences. His talent is unbelievable, and he remains a strong contender to go all the way this season. I can't wait to see and hear his next performance, and I have a very strong feeling that we will be seeing a lot more of Adam in the very near future.
