Adam Lambert Goes Back to Ballads and Leads the Pack on April 21 American Idol

I will be honest. When Adam came out on the stage, I was almost disappointed because I expected him to get out there and dance his ass off. I knew we were going to see a great performance; I just didn't expect it to be of the variety that we were treated to.

He strutted out on stage with a Heat Miser hairdo and a classic satin suit. It was obvious he was going back to the ballad well one more time and the curiosity peaked to see how he was going to pull it off this time around. While Mad World has haunting and actually disturbing to a point, this was the most emotional performance we have seen to date from any of the current Idols.

One thing that Adam has shown week after week is that he listens to what the judges recommend and he applies it to his singing. These tips are not necessarily what he is being told, but he obviously pays attention to what they say to each of the singers.

When Adam first started out on the show, he was all about rock and had a tendency to scream some of the lyrics. I have written on several occasions that he weakens his performance when he does this. However, this is something that he has obviously been working on as his range was incredible. He still belts out the notes a little too close to screaming for me, but you can see where it is getting refined each and every time he hits the stage.

In all honesty, I don't want to see any more ballads from Adam from here on out. More than likely, he will go there one more time as it seems to be what he does when he is in a genre that he is not totally comfortable with. This is not to say that the ballads are not entertaining, because they are. It is that when he is rocking it out, he takes over the show. Allison, Kris and Danny are picking up the pace and it is time for Adam to put them away.

Adam is very versatile. He can sing anything from pop, opera, musical, rock, etc... He doesn't just sing ballads when he is uncomfortable with the American Idol themes. The other contestants are mediocre compared to Adam. If you haven't noticed by now, they are all trying to copy Adam just to keep up.

Ok, whatever it is that you call "screaming" is actually hitting high notes and also known as belting. It is not an easy thing to do, and I can say this because I myself am a singer. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_(music).

My top 3 last night (and this season): 1.Adam Lambert 2.Adam Lambert 3.Adam Lambert! While the other contestants are good singers, they sound mediocre compared to him and are immediately forgotten the moment this man takes on the stage. Adam is truly in a league of his own.

It doesn't matter what he sings. He is superb in any genre. Even his screaming doesn't bother me because it depends on what he is trying to accomplish with the song. Adam understands there is a time and place for everything. I absolutely love him and he will has many admirers out there who feel the same way.

Actually his ballads are generally more popular and loved by the casual voters.
So if he wants to win he'll have to do ballads every once in a while.
