Adam Lambert Going to the "Edge" with Kinky American Music Awards Performance

Act to Incorporate Leather, Chains, Handcuffs -- and Dragging Around a Shackled Woman?

Adam Lambert, the over-the-top vocalist who shot to fame on American Idol by doing vocal calisthenics that none of his competitors could even come close to emulating, said his performance at the 2009 American Music Awards was going to be edgy. Using props like handcuffs and chains, Adam Lambert said Friday that his performance at the AMAs was going to be "exciting and motivating all at the same time." The self-professed resurrector of glam rock will be performing the title single from his debut major label release, "For Your Entertainment," live at Sunday's American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

"I can't wait to see people I look up to as artists in the audience watching," Lambert said.

His act will also incorporate leather with the chains and handcuffs, making for a somewhat kinky performance. He even drags a shackled woman across the floor at some point in the number.

"It will be really interesting to see what kind of reaction the number gets. It's different. It really does have an edge to it."

And that's what Adam Lambert fans have come to expect from the 27-year-old glam rocker. With his piercing vocals and no fear attitude toward attempting unique arrangements of established tunes, Adam Lambert quickly became a fan favorite on American Idol. At one point, he was deemed to be the clear victor of Season 8 on the competition reality show, but, as often happens on shows like American Idol, seemed to suffer the underdog backlash that would ultimately see his roommate, Kris Allen, become the American Idol winner.

While on American Idol, viewers saw Adam Lambert perform songs by Queen, Led Zeppelin, Wild Cherry, KISS, Steppenwolf, Tears for Fears, Smokey Robinson, and Johnny Cash, bringing to each performance that little something that made the performance uniquely Adam Lambert. Whether it was the Persian-sounding "Ring of Fire" or the more pop-oriented "Born To Be Wild," Adam Lambert pushed the envelope of performance standards on American Idol -- and viewers loved him for it.

No doubt his "kinky" performance Sunday night will only serve to intensify his bond with his fans as he tests the envelope once more... "for your entertainment."

His first major label album drops Monday, the day after the American Music Awards. "For Your Entertainment" has already seen tremendous pre-sales, according to Amazon.com. The debut title single landed in Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart this week at #84, the sixth highest jumper in the countdown.

The 37th annual American Music Awards will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. EST on ABC Television.

So far, Adams songs do not sound Rockish. It sounds more like disoriented Pop. His vocals may be "piercing" and he may have done the most altering of songs, but please, HE WAS NOT THAT GOOD AT IT. You people just love to eat junk, and pretend it's all good. Not one C-minus comment from "Saul Relative" on Adam on this post. Geez, I guess I should expect honesty and self responsibility fro this Saul. LOL!

"Calisthenics that none of his competitors could even come close to emulating"? When we watch sports events and the home team gets special lighting and camera treatment, it looks grander, more special. The same thing was done by AI producers, and tinsel minded people fell for it. ALLISON IRAHETA WAS THE BETTER VOCALIST, but she, being Latino, young, and female, had the odds against her. RESPONSIBLY and HONESTLY, Allison should have won. As for Adam's "calisthenics," silly junk like that is done every day, at malls, Parks, clubs/bars, streets...you name it, IT'S BEEN DONE. Adam is not that Genuine. Period. Delirious and tinsel hype is what he got. Experience means nothing when others may have genuine, astronomical talent...and Allison had it. So did Kris and Matt. Adam is a joke, and his vocals at the AMA's proved it.

What right does Adam Lambert have to push the gay agenda in our faces? America is truly decaying from within. The leash-thing is totally unacceptable, too...disgraceful. I wonder what Ryan S. thought about it? I doubt he liked it one bit.

Oh, this was amazing, everything i expected from Adam and more . Seriously though, the double standards in the US are incredible, why is it okay when a woman (Gaga, Britney, Madonna) does it, but when a man does it everyone freaks out ? I loved how the camara frantically searched for something else to focus on during the feisty parts . His voice sounded great, and it was just all perfect .

Lambert was trash not talent tonight on the AMA'S. I will be keeping my entertainment $'s in my pocket especially when it comes to Lamberts cds.

The AMA's and ABC should be hanging their head in shame over Lamberts performance. I thought he said he wanted to be known for his vocal ability not his sexual orientation. He blew it big time not living by his own rules. I was willing to stay with him as long as he concentrated on the singing..not spending his time engaging in simulated sex acts on national television with kids, teens, and their parents watching.

The heat goes on for the Annual American Music Awards 2009. My best bet is Michael Jackson (memoir), Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga Will be the one who will dominate the stage today. Though, I expect gaga to do some "creepy" performance again as usual.

    Hooray: http://bit.ly/american-music-awards-live-performance

Shakira is just sexy as usual :D

I would consider myself a huge Adam Lambert fan. I bought every video and song from AI. I purchased the deluxe album the minute it came out for preorder. However I am so disappointed in this performance and "I get it" I just did not like it. I was embarrassed to watch this trash in front of my husband. All day, like a kid I was all excited, gonna watch Adam, reserving the TV, making such a big deal over it to my family ... my only saving grace is that my 14 year old twins went to bed before he performed. I am still a huge fan of the voice and the IT factor of Adam, but geez this was network TV and it was not hot and edgy, it was trashy and pornographic.

I don't agree with much of the performance part, and I think Adam's vocals were a little nervous -- but I still stand with him as an avid fan. He will have ups and downs as he learns to extract his very best performances... he is just beginning. Give the guy a break. He is feeling around for his limits right now.
