Adam Lambert Losing American Idol Still Has Many Disbelieving

What Will Adam Lambert Do Now that American Idol is Over

Mary Zeiher
As we all now know, Adam Lambert lost the American Idol title to Kris Allen last Wednesday night in a surprise upset that many are still struggling to process days after the atrocious announcement occurred. That's right, I said atrocious and I meant it, American Idol.

I have grappled with coming to some sense of acceptance with the announcement that Adam Lambert lost American Idol. But I have been unable to defuse this underlying anger about the Kris Allen win, that rests within my normally intelligent and logical brain.

I have read all the articles about American Idol and how gracious Adam Lambert has been in his defeat and the vast numbers of opportunities that now await him in the wake of the American Idol debacle. I know that Adam Lambert has an amazing career ahead that does not include the weight of the anchor of the American Idol title.

But I also know that Adam Lambert has been the most consistently strong and most unique talent to hit the American Idol stage ever. I know that weekly I tuned in, which was a first for me to the land of American Idol addiction, just to see what Adam Lambert would bring to the stage that week on American Idol.

Then came the American Idol finale show and I was incredibly entertained throughout the evening that included performances by greats like Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Keith Urban, Lionel Richie, KISS and Queen. I could have done without the American Idol awards moments that were only there to fill air time and bring back horrible things like Norman and Bikini Girl. But hey, Kara can sing! Who knew?

Then came the American Idol moment that we were all waiting for, the announcement of this year's winner. I took immense solace in the fact that at least Danny Gokey wasn't still standing on the stage. That would have been totally unbearable. Ryan announced that it was Kris Allan, and not Adam Lambert and my brain stopped for a moment. My brain literally paused, stuttered and then re-set as I sat there stunned into silence.

But my incredulous silence was quickly replaced with overwhelming waves of anger. There was no way Adam Lambert lost! Adam was to be American Idol. Adam Lambert who gave amazing performances, received standing ovations from both Smokey Robinson and Simon Cowell, who gave us that precious moment with "Mad World". No other contestant even came close all season long.

Yes America got it wrong on American Idol. Adam Lambert should have won, period, and end of story. It's also interesting to note that the American Idol "powers-that-be" have still not released any official information about what the vote count actually was. Are we to just blindly trust American Idol and Telescope Inc. and their voting numbers?

This year's American Idol has come to an end but questions remain about the voting and I don;t think they are going away. I did enjoy watching the season and yes, especially Adam Lambert I will certainly continue to watch Adam Lambert and where the talented young man takes his career.

I voted for 3 hours with 2 phones and hardly got through less than 50 times. I also got all circuits busy on my cell. I have voted for every idol show and this has never happened. Last year when I voted I had 100 votes from 1 phone in around 1 hour. Fox needs to change the way the voting is done.

Too much went on here. AT&T free phones, and lots of them, power voting and then I saw one report, from a student at a local college in Arkansas bragging about jamming Adams phone lines. I too, along with countless people could not get through on the phone lines for the first 3 hours then magically in the 4th hour we got through, well to me that speaks of what might just have happened with someone jamming the lines. People are far too creating when trying to get there guy to be the winner. I know people power vote but certainly not to the extent that was coming out of Arkansas. 38 million votes..... please. It is not right, should not of happened and it reflects on Kris's win.

ok, so the show will most likely never admit to a fix of any kind from any source, so perhaps we can start now to flood them with messages insisting on a one vote rule. no group should be able to cram the box. as for 'it's only a singing show', clearly it is more; it's a huge cultural phenomenon and is therefore no place for bigotry. the religious right will use every avenue to get their way; they are insidious in their tactics, and i for one am sick and tired of it. this is america, whether in the library, the pulpit, the classroom, the voting booth, at the altar, and on television. so there.

Since when is American Idol a political concern, a religious concern. This is certainly a first. That a reality, singing competition is a concern of churches, senators, state leaders, business corporations...hmmm.
You cannot trust anything these days!

continued: Arkansas with the promise to vote Kris. AT&T explained how to power vote. Remember, these power votes were not supposed to count by AI's own rules. Also remember, they reserve the right to make that final decision.
5.The final decision is not made by the voting public, but by AI/Murdoch. The concept of public vote participation is a gimmick to get viewers/boost ratings. Make the public believe that they are involved, get them invested. They will continue to tune in to keep tabs on said investment.
6.Gay rights issue has been a battle on the ballots. If AI crowned a gay person as the American Idol, this would fuel the fire. Conservatives are doing all they can to prevent gay marriage. As some states have recently allowed legally recognized gay marriage, it is becoming an even stronger agenda for the christian conservatives to block further movement and acceptance.
    7. Churches/Pastors telling entire congregations to vote for Kris because he was a christian.
    Since when

  • Karen5/26/2009

    This was a political/religious agenda.
    1. Rupert Murdoch, a right wing republican christian conservative extremist, owns FOX.
    2. Although AI voting rules declare power-voting will not be counted in the tally, they reserve the right to make final decisions on the votes that will count.
3.Senators Baker and Madison from Arkansas had an agenda to get a Hewlett Packard plant in Conway. Conway was on the list of hopefuls, but not a real contender to HP(HP's own words stated that Conway was a hole in the wall and they wouldn't be able to attract people to the area). HP since Kris's AI win, now says that it is now possible to attract people with the new Conway attention in the media, and will build the HP plant in Conway.
    4. AI set up the venues for the Tuesday night finale. They chose an 8,000 + capacity venue for Kris. Vehicle/Big screen/whatever, was offered as raffle prizes for staying and voting for Kris full 4 hours. Phones were handed out by AT&T to several venue locations in Arkan

    continuation:
Is it FAIR for the sponsor AT&T to do this to one contender and not the other?
Is this acceptable??? To me, that is FOUL.
We just need to remind ourselves that the original title of this show was: American Idol: The Search for a SUPERSTAR. So far, it is only ADAM who is deserving of this title. No offense to Kris who is a likable guy. But to all his fans, you just have to concede, even Kris agrees with all of us Adam's fans that he should be the winner. You can't argue with your own idol. He is speaking from the heart.
But after all is said and done, Adam is better off as runner up and it's a fact he does not need to win this to be a great success. Kris does need to be the AI. Adam is the WORLD's Idol.
And yes, ADAM, is a true CLASS act for handling this graciously more than his fans. It's because of this, I'm able to accept. I'm forever a fan. What a beautiful soul!

  • Mariyas5/26/2009

According to statistics, ADAM has so much more fans than Kris, not counting Adam's world wide fans. But Kris' fans were able to vote thousand more times with technical help from the sponsor AT&T. Arkansas with a population of 2.8 million, placed 38 million votes for Kris. That's still excluding votes from Arkansas placed at different time zones shown as votes from different states. One person in Arkansas placed 45,000 votes!!!
A post from an Arkansan confirmed that there's no way anyone would win against the scheme of Arkansas voting for Kris.
From the Arkansas Gazette: "Fans at the Estes Stadium Watch Party took out wireless phones and started making calls and firing off text messages-some voting on their own devices and others on phones borrowed from AT&T, which supplied about 50 display units and respresentatives to teach multiple "power texting".
AT&T also made phones available in a "texting zone" at a watch party at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock."
Is it FAIR for the sponsor

    continued from below.

...as of the day of the finale. As of now Adam has 17 in top video downloads and Kris has 4. I guess Adam is handling this #2 spot better than we fans. What a class act he is!!!!

  • Lynn5/26/2009

I cannot believe that the greatest idol ever and best "entertainer" to come along in years had to settle for the #2 spot. I know Adam will be legendary anyway, but this whole voting process is totally crazy. I tried to vote by cell for over 2 hours straight and didn't get a single vote in. I kept getting the message "all circuits are busy". Then I read that in one state alone (Arkansas, pop less than 3 mil)almost 40 million votes were cast. This state also distributed free AT&T phones and informed voters by newspaper about voting softward, both of which allow thousands of votes to be cast without ever getting a busy signal. This multiple voting by a single person is no way to determine the #1 spot. People cannot say America got this right or wrong when a single person is allowed to cast multiple votes for the same person while another voter isn't able to get a vote in. Since viewers are voting on each performance, I wonder how many video downloads each contestant had as of the day of t
