Adam Lambert: Promising "Glam," Anticipation Building for First Album

Can American Idol Runner-Up Live Up to the Hype?

Saul Relative
Adam Lambert's as yet untitled first album is a little over a month away from dropping, but the American Idol runner-up certainly has garnered enough media attention since coming in second on the No. 1 rated show in the United States. It is a virtual Adam Lambert media parade -- photos of him shopping, his backstage antics, his relationship with American Idol winner Kris Allen, his feud with Danny Gokey, a stray comment, a leaked picture of what might appear on the new album, pictures of him and his boyfriend... the list goes on and on. Although attention to Adam Lambert's music has been steady throughout, as the day approaches for his first album to drop, everything is spiraling into focus on the upcoming first album. His fans are certain he will deliver a great album, but will he live up to the hype?

Adam Lambert stood out from all the rest of the contestants on Season 8 of American Idol, so much so that he dominated from the very beginning. Although his vocal stylings sometimes were a bit over the top, his performances sometimes a bit theatrical, the talent was never in question. In fact, Adam Lambert's stage presence was far and above that of any of his fellow contestants and speculation ran early that he would be the American Idol Season 8 winner, even though he might have a little trouble from the sentimental favorite, Danny Gokey, whose wife had died just before he auditioned for American Idol. But it wasn't to be and dark horse Kris Allen quietly took the American Idol title in May. But even though Adam Lambert didn't win (and it must be noted that the American IdolSeason 8 champ, Kris Allen, was also very talented), there was never a doubt that Adam Lambert would become one of the biggest selling acts to have graced the American Idol stage. His songs from his American Idol catalog were selling like crazy. His merchandise on Ebay far eclipsed his fellow contestants. News of what he was doing and how he was performing were the headlines pouring from the American Idol Tour.

To say that Adam Lambert is a hot commodity is to have a firm grasp of understatement. But, still, the question remains: Will his music live up to the hype?

He is promising a return to glam rock, a theatrical style of rock popularized by David Bowie, Queen and Elton John, where the performers wore outrageously styled costumes. He recently told Entertainment Weekly, "It's as if a '70s time capsule blasted off into space and you're watching it through a holographic filter. That's my big vision. ... Glam is back, mother----ers."

A good indication of how well his album will do is the buzz being generated by his post-American Idol song, "Time For Miracles," the Queen power ballad Adam Lambert has recorded for the closing credits of the upcoming apocalyptic thriller "2012." Although the word is that "Time For Miracles" will not be the first release from his new album, the buzz generated by "leaked" portions of the song and Queen guitarist Brian May's gushing praise (he was "blown away") for it, Adam Lambert shouldn't have much to worry about.

Glambert will no doubt rise to the hype.

Now it's just a waiting game. The "2012" soundtrack is slated for release on November 10, just three days before the worldwide premiere of the film. The full version of "Time For Miracles" can already be heard on YouTube in various unofficial video versions. The soon to be named first album by Adam Lambert will drop on November 24. Coincidentally, that has been announced as the tentative release date of Kris Allen's first album as well.

Adam will do fine with or without the hype. He has a huge fan base that keeps growing daily. I am sure after his album is released, he will develope a fan base that keeps him on top for a very long time! On twitter he already has more followers than Kris AND Gokey followers put together!

Factually accurate reporting, "Saul Relative", huh?

  • TimeForMiracles10/19/2009

Good Lord! Even a lay person like myself could've written a more accurate and more informative piece than this! How is it that an average fan could in two seconds fact check all the inaccurate info in your article, but a journalist acould not?

There was no feud with Danny, and Kris' album is the 17th, and adam's is the 23rd. get your facts straight.

Here is hoping Adam more than lives up to the hype! I hope he blows everyone's expectations out of the water with his amazing talent, originality, creativity and theatrical performances!

As others have pointed out, be careful publicizing a feud between Adam and Danny that doesn't exist - check your facts before you write please.
And it might have been worth mentioning that Adam Lambert will be the first performer ever to appear on American Music Awards BEFORE they even have a record out; unprecedented!! Or that his Time for Miracles video will premier before "This Is It", Michael Jackson's film. It's hard for a journalist to write about Adam, because we fans usually know more than the journalist does!
