Adam Lambert Reaches 1 Million in Worldwide Album Sales

Well, he's done it. Adam Lambert, the popular and controversial glam rocker that had everyone watching American Idol during Season 8, watched the total worldwide album sales for his first major label production, "For Your Entertainment", surpass the 1 million worldwide sales mark this week. He made the announcement on his official website, AdamOfficial.com. In the eight months since the album was released, it has sold nearly 700,000 copies in the United States and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, possibly due to the hit video, "If I Had You," and Adam Lambert's Glam Nation Tour.

The announcement: "It gives us great pleasure to announce that over 1 million copies of Adam Lambert's debut album, For Your Entertainment, have now been sold worldwide. Congrats to Adam for his incredible success, and let Adam Official be the first to thank all of you fans on his behalf."

According to Idol Chatter and Nielsen Soundscan, "For Your Entertainment" moved 5,000 more copies this week, pushing Lambert, currently at #16 on the the American Idol bestsellers list (U.S. sales only), to just 1,000 total sales away from Elliot Yamin's total -- a mark he will most likely pass in the coming week.

Helping the glam rocker reach the million-selling milestone is the success of the album's singles. "For Your Entertainment," the album's first single, reached #61 in the U.S. and #23 in Canada (both Billboard Hot 100 singles charts). But the second single, "Whattaya Want From Me?", hit #10 in the U.S., #3 in Canada, and became a Top 10 single in six other countries. The latest single, "If I Had You," continues to do well in Canada and the U.S. Although falling from the Much More video top spot (Canada) this week, it climbed into the Top Ten on the Canadian Billboard chart (#10), moving up five spaces, and moved into the #69 spot in the U.S. (#29 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart).

In addition to his million-topping achievement, Adam Lambert's video for "If I Had You" moved up the VH1 charts as well. It now sits at #2 (it held the top spot at the beginning of July), right behind B.o.B.'s "Airplanes."

At present, Adam Lambert is in the middle of his Glam Nation Tour. Alison Iraheta, the American Idol #4 finalist of Season 8, is the opening act.

Adam Lambert quickly shot to fame on American Idol with his solid vocal style, immediately standing out among the Season 8 contestants. Along with his exceptional song choices and a patented sustained scream, he became known for his sometimes androgynous mode of dress, which he referred to as glam, in the tradition of David Bowie. He continued to capture headlines after coming in second on the reality talent show (a headline itself) when his live performance at the American Music Awards became controversial for its sexual antics.
