Adam Lambert Takes a Fall into the Bottom Three

American Idol's Most Likely Winner Stumbles

Adam Lambert is not invincible, after all. The theatrical singer, pegged for the Idol win, landed in the bottom three during last night's results show.

The five remaining finalists from last week performed Rat Pack standards Tuesday night. Kris Allen gave an average performance of "The Way You Look Tonight." Matt Giraud sang "My Funny Valentine" to bluesy jazz perfection. Allison Iraheta gave a good performance of "Someone To Watch Over Me", and Danny Gokey livened up the crowd with his energetic rendition of "Come Rain Or Come Shine."

Adam Lambert sang "Feeling Good." He amazed the judges, and hit high note after high note. He came down the stairs like he owned the whole place and knew it.

What he did not do was perform a Rat Pack standard.

This lone factor is what most likely sent Adam Lambert to the bottom three Wednesday night. The closest comparisons to Lambert in AI history are Chris Daughtry and David Cook, both rockers, and both a bit flashy in their performances. All three have been hailed for putting a rock edge on many of their performed songs.

David Cook, the winner of last season's contest, was noted as being the most original Idol pre-Lambert. And Mr. Cook won, as many believe Lambert will do. However, the one trick David Cook knew, that Lambert apparently has yet to learn, is when to leave a song alone.

David Cook blew the crowd away and stole the whole competition when he changed up Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby" but the moment he proved himself as a solid performer was the night he sang "Music Of The Night" the way it was supposed to be done, even quipping that since everyone expected him to do the unexpected, the most unexpected thing he could do was just sing it straight.

Which Lambert should have done Tuesday night. There are some genres you can play with, and some you just have to leave alone.

Fortunately for Lambert, he was spared, and Giraud was sent packing despite giving a performance which perfectly suited his voice.

Adam Lambert is in luck with next week's theme: Rock. It can be safely predicted that both Adam Lambert, and Allison Iraheta, who has seen the bottom three more than once, will perform well in the genre, and if Danny Gokey stays consistent, we may be saying goodbye to Kris Allen next week.
