Adam Lambert Wows American Idol Audience Again

Founder of Motown, Berry Gordy, Jr., has a lot to smile about. This year will mark the 50th year anniversary of the legendary music label. And, last night on American Idol, the top ten contestants kicked off Motown, singing to some of the greatest soul music artists in history. Here's a run-down of the hits and misses on last night's Idol.

Who the fans were watching:

Lil Rounds- She was expected to come out and steal the show. However, the wig and the fringe dress did nothing to help the judges like her song choice. Kara said that during certain parts of "(Love Is Like A)Heat Wave" by Martha and the Vandellas, Lil practically screamed her way through it. It's hard to understand why Lil was thrown out of her element with her vocal talents. How much longer can the powerhouse vocalist survive if she can't even dominate Motown Week?

Adam Lambert- He is probably the contestant that most Idol fans look forward to hearing. Each week, he has been dominating the songs and shocking the audience. Last night was no exception, as he was nothing less than impressive. Instead of his usual goth garb, Adam looked completely straight-laced, and (dare I say it?) quite handsome. Who knew that throwing on a nice gray suit, slicking the wild, black hair down, and scrubbing clean the eyeliner and fingernail polish, would produce such a good-looking guy? He looked like a young Elvis Presley singing along to "Tracks of My Tears", a Smokey Robinson hit. During practice, Smokey said that he loved Adam's version, and during the live show, he even gave Adam a standing ovation. Simon said that it was the best performance of the night and that Adam had emerged as a star.

Best performers of the night:

Matt Giraud- The crooner performed to one of the greatest love-making songs ever , "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye. Matt sounded good even coming from behind his piano. He has an infectious smile and continues to pull forward week after week. Paula digs his sexy, cool vibe. Both Randy and Simon agree that he is one of the front runners in this competition.

Kris Allen-Smokey liked him and his guitar, which worked well for Kris's version of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You). This is a song originally performed by Marvin Gaye and then James Taylor as well. Kris has no worries about leaving the show any time soon because the judges and the ladies love him.

Allison Iraheta- She has such a strong voice that The Temptation's, "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", was a perfect song choice for her. Simon called her performance blazing hot. Paula's comment was near incoherent because Simon had drawn a mustache over her lips, and the two giggled throughout the entire judges' critique. Who knows what that joke was all about? Nonetheless, it was incredibly rude.

Average performers of the night:

Anoop Desai- The dog seems to still be going strong. He has a nice voice so Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, "Ooh Baby Baby", wasn't much of a stretch for him. And,although each judge agreed on Anoop's great vocals, Randy wants him to "get the party on" and turn the energy back up.

Danny Gokey- Performed to The Temptation's, "Get Ready". It's quite obvious that Danny's popularity isn't waning. Kara admitted that she is still a huge "Danny fan", even if he didn't have the best performance. So, welcome to the top nine, Danny!

Worst 3 performers of the night:

Michael Sarver- Wanted to church it up to "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" , another Temptation hit. It was good that he brought back his soulful vocals. Unfortunately, they weren't big enough to pull off a great performance. Simon couldn't wait for it to end.

Megan Joy Corkrey- Has gotten over the flu, but got pushed into a song that didn't suit her voice. During practice, Smokey called her "refreshing". But there was nothing refreshing about her rendition of Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life". As Paula said, she did looked stunning. However, Simon may be right about her being in serious trouble after that performance.

Scott MacIntyre- Is still proudly hiding behind his piano. "You Can't Hurry Love" by Diana Ross and the Supremes, has a fun and upbeat tempo that should have allowed Scott to get some shine time in. The interaction with the background singers was a positive touch, but the vocals were still a boring mess. None of the judges was too crazy about his arrangement.

It's hard to call who is probably going home tonight. If it's based on vocal talents, Megan Joy will be saved. However, if it's based upon popularity, then it's possible that Scott has another week to bore us to death on AI. Either way it goes, Michael's gravy train ride is soon, and very soon, coming to an end.
