Adam Lambert's 2009 American Music Awards Performance Highly Inappropriate and Not "Sexy"

AMA Performance Included Groping, Kissing, Handcuffs, Whips, and Bondage Outfits

Adam Lambert has always been over the top since his days on American Idol, but his performance at the 2009 American Music Awards was beyond over the top.

Lambert performed "For Your Entertainment" at the AMAs from his debut album, but from the responses of his performance on blogs and social media sites like Twitter, his album may be selling a lot less albums now.

Before Adam's AMA performance he announced that it would be "sexy" and "edgy" but no one could have imagined that he would take it as far as he would. He even said, "It will be really interesting to see what kind of reaction the number gets. It's different. It really does have an edge to it."

Lambert arrived on stage for his AMA performance dressed all in black with spiked hair and makeup, but it wasn't his appearance that garnered the attention. It was his actions.

He proceeded to start singing and then all of a sudden dancers came on the stage wearing bondage-like outfits with handcuffs and whips. There was barely dressed men and women performing crude and inappropriate moves as Adam walked around the stage singing.

It gets worse though. Adam then proceeded to interact with his dancers. One of the first male dancers he encountered Adam took his head and rubbed it into his pelvic region. Another female dancer was groped in her pelvic area by Adam Lambert. He then proceeded to more than just kiss one the male keyboard player towards the end of the song. All the while Adam was singing at the AMAs, the dancers were doing sexual moves and playing with whips.

There are a lot of families across the country who likes to watch award shows like the AMAs as a family. Would most parents like their tween or teen watching Adam Lambert's performance at the 2009 American Music Awards?

There are a lot of people who are going to bring up Adam Lambert's sexual preference but it has absolutely nothing to do with how disgusting and wrong his AMA performance was. Was he trying to prove something to America? All he did was probably lose some fans in the process and piss a lot of parents off.

This type of musical performance should not have been played on a regular cable channel at the time slot it was. As mentioned it was being watched by many teens that see this type of behavior and think it is okay. If his performance was on a cable channel past 11pm, then that is his prerogative, but the owners of ABC should be ashamed that they allowed this performance.

So, did you watch the 2009 American Music Awards? What was your opinion of Adam Lambert's 'sexy" performance? Was it just his creative side showing through or was it highly inappropriate for the venue?

I did not think it was that bad. There was a disclaimer put before he performed it. children should have benn put to bed anyway. And if you are so uncomfortable with that change the channel. I've seen soft HBO porn worst than that and that foolishness it terrible. To each's own. But dont be offended and bad mouth somebody especially when you were told in advance what you were in for.

Didn't see it, but I'll take your word for it.

I did not see this, but I have been seeing more and more of what I fing completely innappropriate things on TV. I am no conservative, but really things are out of control. On a Sun. afternoon, watching TV with my son on a regular channel there was a scene of a man and woman having sex in the middle of a town market. There was no nudity but showed all movements and was very explicit in the audio dept. I was embarrassed and ashamed!

The point is this was the American MUSIC Awards, not a tv porn channel. The idea that Adam was making a statement against a double standard for female singers doesnt hold because female singers dont simulate oral sex, or "finger" the crotches of the opposite sex.

I saw just a small bit of the video on youtube, because I wasn't able to see it last night, and was appaulled that primetime television would allow such inappropriate behaviors like that. I have less respect for ABC and I will probably never even consider watching the AMA's again. They have channel's for this kind of smut and it is called HBO or better yet LOGO!!! But then again our television airways are so filled with crap such as this that there isn't much of anything good to watch for families anymore. Never was an Adam Lambert fan and after seeing what he did on the AMA's makes me all the more happy that Kris Allen won American Idol.

I am so appalled at Adams spot on the AMA awards. He has a great talent but last night he turned my stomach.

JC... Is your comment to me? If so this is my response, if it isn't than carry on, nothing to see here. I hope that my kids, young boys, do have most of my views. I hope that they can be open to everyone differing lifestyles and see that just because you express yourself in a way that is "out of the box" that it doesn't make you a bad person. My kids were in bed way before the end of the AMAs but whenever we have seen same-sex couples my kids have asked and have been told that it isn't wrong to love someone the same gender as you. Even if my kids would have been awake for Adam's performance I wouldn't have let them watch it because of the words "shocking" and "edgey" that were advertising his performance. I remember when Madonna performed "Like a Virgin" on a 1980's MTV award show. My parents were shocked and there was a huge stink made about it, but it was the type of performer that she was and always has been. I just find it funny, in an ironic way, that people are in such a

Jennifer, Hate to see what your kids turned out to be with your views.

ok, so Im confused. How do any of you people think that he can sing? I thought he was horrible on American Idol and last nights performance was even worse. But everyone has a right to their own opinion.
And regarding his performance, that was just wrong. Save that for the internet. He made the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" look like childs play.

  • Definitely NOT an Adam fan after that one!11/23/2009

Freedom of expression is fine, but how about some respect for yourself and others? I suspect he has done incredible damage to his career with that one and may well have ended it before it began. You people that find nothing wrong with the performance from a theatric's perspective (singing - or was it screaming aside?)... what's this world coming to? This is not about his sexuality, I could care less! There are more productive ways to put yourself on the map than the one you chose that is going to wipe you clean from the map. What a waste of talent! Add me to the long list of former Adam fans after last night.
