Adam Lambert's AMA Performance: Singer Says He's a Sexual Person and Not a Babysitter

A Mountain Out of a Molehill?

Jolie du Pre
In the latest Adam Lambert AMA performance news, in an interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Adam Lambert responded to Good Morning America's decision to cancel his appearance on their morning show and on his thoughts about his AMA performance as reported at TMZ, who posted the audio recording of the show. In one of the most important revelations, Lambert said that a "mountain made out of a molehill" has occurred with the whole ordeal.

Was Adam Lambert's act more offensive than anything ever shown before on a musical awards show?

According to Lambert, and to outspoken bloggers like Perez Hilton, there's a double standard that is clearly being shown when it comes to the Adam Lambert AMA performance. Adam kissed a male dancer and simulated oral sex. However, there have been female performers from Madonna to Britney Spears to Lady Gaga who have displayed acts that could be considered outrageous. A double standard, Adam says , is being set for men, particularly a gay male. As Lambert pointed out, at this year's AMAs, Janet Jackson grabbed her crotch, Rihanna had a rifle and Lady Gaga was shown smashing whiskey bottles. Adam was quick to point out that he doesn't have a problem with the other performances, just that they were "just as inappropriate" if acts are to be called inappropriate.

The Adam Lambert AMA performance has created fall-out with the cancellation of his appearance on Good Morning America. Will there be more shrapnel?

Good Morning America canceled Adam Lambert's appearance after his performance on the AMAs. On Ryan Seacrest's show, Adam indicated that he respected their decision but that he does not apologize for his acts. "I'm proud of the fact that I did get a little carried away," Lambert said.

Lambert calls himself a "sexual person." The question is will there be more damage caused to Lambert's career. So far, Lambert will be able to make an appearance on the CBS Early Show, another morning news program, plus he did an interview with Barbara Walters. According to Seacrest, Walters calls Lambert one of the "10 Most Fascinating People."

Should a star be a babysitter, a performer, or both?

One of the biggest complaints that come to stars who display behavior that some consider inappropriate is the argument that it's bad for young kids. The Adam Lambert AMA performance has caused problems for Lambert, but many remember the fall-out over Janet Jackson's Super Bowl performance where she flashed one of her breasts. However, it was a football game and not the AMAs. Lambert's response to young kids watching the AMAs? "It's late. I'm not a babysitter. I'm a performer."

Patricia, I'm an erotica writer. So....I'm not "embarrassed."

His performance was inappropriate for network TV. And I didn't and don't like when Madonna or any of those other people you mentioned perform inappropriately, either! Being a "sexual" person doesn't mean it's acceptable to do what he did. When I go to be entertained, I don't want to be embarrassed by what I'm watching. I don't want to see a woman simulating sex any more than I want to see a man, gay or straight, simulating sex.

Nice job, Jolie. And I agree with your comment, why should violence be promoted? We should all be getting more sex and less violence.

I love Lambert, but then, I'm not skeered of gay people. And really, who needs to apologize for sexuality on the AMAs?? Outside of Rio, I have never seen so many women's butt-cheeks as I did that night, so he had a right to believe he was in a "safe environment." I respect him for admitting his vocals were off that night, and publicly holding himself to a higher standard. To me, that's professionalism and accountability, and he delivered. He was so pitch-perfect on the CBS morning show today, it almost sounded like a recording. In this age of "artists" who can't sing (youtube Taylor Swift on Saturday Night Live; you will go deaf), that Lambert is concerned with vocal excellence is refreshing.

Violence is good. Sex is bad. Only in America, a country with Puritan roots. Other countries don't have this problem.

sex sells, adam seems to know this, it is not an easy thing to be in the limelight, i give him a thumbs up for being out there, regarding morals, well that's kind of subjective in my opinion, exactly who is responsible for establishing these?

I have to agree with Brandon I don't like the sexual acts simulated or whatever on television gay or straight. Way too much of that by performers. Bet you wouldn't see Susan Boyle doing that. Ha!
