Adam Sandler Turkey Song Begins Sandler Holiday Soundtrack

Robert Dougherty
Adam Sandler's Turkey Song is just one of his holiday favorites. The Adam Sandler turkey song follows the usual formula of Sandler's child-like singing, bizarre rhymes, and out-of-nowhere pop culture references. Ultimately, the Sandler turkey song may not be as catchy as his trilogy of Chanukah songs. But with Thanksgiving approaching, Adam Sandler fans are marking the occasion with his Turkey Song, as they buy his latest movie on DVD.

Adam Sandler debuted his Turkey Song early in his Saturday Night Live tenure. As Sandler built his reputation for weird songs, the Turkey number set the tone. Sandler sang about his love of eating turkey - complete with his usual ramblings. Back then, lines about Cheryl Tiegs, Darryl Strawberry and Mike Tyson seemed a little more topical.

Sandler's Turkey Song is being remembered well heading into Thanksgiving week. It is not the only Thanksgiving song he has done, however, since he also did a turkey song as Bruce Springsteen. But his original Turkey Song is remembered as the definitive version.

Despite all that, the song is just a prelude to his real hit, as Chanukah approaches. Though the Turkey Song gets a few extra downloads this time of year, it is nothing compared to memories of his Chanukah song numbers. Those routines really made Sandler the king of comedy holiday songs - and since Thanksgiving doesn't have a lot of traditional songs, it makes room for the Turkey Song to join the holiday soundtrack.

Sandler's holiday numbers helped make him an early star on SNL, and really paved the way for his movie career. Speaking of which, it is fitting that the Turkey Song is getting extra attention online this week, and not just because it is Thanksgiving.

This is also the week where Funny People, Sandler's summer film with Judd Apatow's team, comes out on DVD. The movie was one of his rare box office flops, although many thought he gave one of his best performances, as he went semi-serious and mocked his own career. But Sandler's die-hard fans still prefer him to sing, talk weird and knock people around, rather than see him in a two-and-a-half hour long dramady.

Once Thanksgiving ends, the Turkey Song will be put on the back of holiday playlists for another year, while Chanukah Song 1, 2 and 3 starts to warm up for the weeks ahead.
