This next review will be as fair as possible, but I must warn you, I personally see no bigger waste in the precious 14 club limit golf bag than a chipper. I mean, come on here guys and girls, you really can't take a 8 iron, put just a little back of center, press the hands just a little ahead of the ball and make a putting stroke? You really want (assuming you are playing within the rules of the 14 club limit) to keep a 5 wood, 7 wood, or another hybrid out of the bag for a club you don't need! It drives me crazy and always has!
All that said, the Adams A3 OS Chipper and I had a go around a few months ago. It has 37 degrees of loft which is between a 7 and 8 iron depending on the set you have, a putter hosel and boxer technology. Yeah, like you really need high MOI for a chip shot. Anyways, it has the typical rounded sole to prevent catching turf on the back and through swing and is short enough for you to....wait for it..... make a nice easy putting motion with the ball placed just a little back of center with your hand pressed just a little head of the ball!
I really can't tell you how much I hate chippers. But again, all that said, this club does as advertised. It makes it very easy to get the ball up in the air and onto the green quickly and rolls the ball smoothly from just off the green. It even had a little use from moderate rough around the greens, but so does my gap wedge. It's a little different take and a little more technology than other chippers out there so that's a plus, but seriously folks, spend a couple hours working on a proper setup and stroke for the chip. Experiment with trajectory's you will get from chipping with a 6,7,8,9,pw,gw and save yourself some cash and that all important space in the bag!
It's a good solid club, if you really like chippers this is by far one of the better ones, just don't let me know you bought it OK?
Stay Tuned,
Mike
