Adam's Lament

Trey Russell
Passing through soft starlight,
Walking, wondering when,
If, I might find the strength
To leave the grove, dance out.

Beauty most compelling,
Grasping with silver chains
At my bare, iron soul,
Tempting, testing me.

Should I live forever,
I might not find a thing
So very entrancing
As that which now I see.

It is but fairytale,
Simply a dream I dreamed;
A place that does not breath,
Dead, immortal in dreams.

My heart makes my words lies,
For in my heart, that dream
That I dreamed in darkness
Will not illusion be.

Someday, perhaps, I will
Make it back to that world
That lies beyond the sun
And then, perhaps I'll live.

Why did I turn away
From perfection and light
For curiosity,
To gain knowledge and sin?
