Add Depth to Your Eyes and Eyelashes Without Black or Brown Mascara

Tips for Dressing Up the Eyes

Ashley Mott
Sometimes women can get into a beauty rut of thinking of mascara, in particular black and brown mascaras, as being the only way to dress up the eyelashes and give the eyes an added dimension. However, there are several different things one can do to add some zip to the eyes while not walking the beauty aisle straight and narrow.

Eyelash Style - Fake Eyelashes with Added Pizazz

Fake eyelashes are nothing new, but in recent years some fun and surprising elements have been added to the false eyelashes available for consumers at the retail store and at more budget conscious online stores. You can buy false eyelashes with luxurious textures and with added zap in the form of beads and sparkles. While these would obviously only be used on special occasions, they can add a lot of fun.

Eyelash Style - Dyeing or Tinting Your Lashes

While there is not a single FDA-approved version of mascara dye or tint, it is still a practice many women use. If you do not mind the lack of a label or if you are satisfied by European certifications, these can add an edge to your eyelashes by providing color without the obvious use of a product. Even the best mascaras are plainly visible as mascara, but a tinted or dyed eye lash looks completely natural in time.

Eyelash Style - Rock a Clear Mascara

Clear mascaras are considered the domain of women with dark lashes to begin with and who only need a little bit of shaping gel and glisten to accentuate their eyes. However, a clear mascara can add an interesting edge to even pale lashes by providing lift and shape to accentuate the tone of the lashes. Depending on the color of your lashes, you can end up with a very interesting contrast. My own eyelashes are darker at the root and then paler at the tips. When I use a clear wand, they look purposefully colored in a half and half shade.

Eyelash Style - Use a Colored Mascara

Mascara is typically sold at department stores and drugstores in black, very black, brown, and very rarely blue. However, the Internet has opened up a huge opportunity for women to experiment with color, color, color. A quick search for colored mascara will bring up purple mascara, red or cherry mascara, multiple shades of blue, and even teal. For women bold enough to wear such a product, the style factor can be absolutely through the roof.

Treat your eyelashes as boldly as you treat your eyelid, and you can be well on your way to new levels of fierce.
