Add More Color to Summer Photos with Color Effects for IPhone

Barbara Mae
Gorgeous weather and fun adventures make summer the time for taking photos. And more and more, many of these photos are being taken with iPhones. They say the best camera is always the one you have with you, so it's little surprise that mobile phones are becoming the top choice when it comes to grabbing a few spontaneous snapshots. But, there is another benefit to capturing photos with an iPhone - easy access to apps for adding fun effects and enhancements. One of the best free iPhone apps for photo effects is Color Effects.

This app is all about playing with color, or removing it entirely. With Color Effects, the hues and shades of your photos are now completely under your control to do with as you please. One of the best features of this application is its intuitive selective highlighting. Color Effects has a nifty little magic wand that allows you to choose exactly which areas of your photo you wish to manipulate, and somehow it always seems to know what you have in mind. It can pick out anything from a face in a crowd to a flower in a garden to a bee perched on that flower, select it, and then bend just that selection to your every whim. The selective highlight tool is sensitive enough to detect the stray fibers on a sweater, the stray hairs on a bad hair day, or the whiskers on a cat.

Color Effects is rich in features. It comes with the regular multiple touch zoom feature for which i-Ware has already become famous. It has a complex undo feature that can remember deep into the past and root out those actions that seemed like a good idea at the time but about which you've since changed your mind. Color Effects is able to support amazing photo resolutions and can capture even the tiniest details.

There is a paintbrush that you can use to restore the original color of the photo using the strokes of your choosing, and there is a paintbrush that you can use to color your photo with grayscale in narrow or broad swaths. Every brush comes with customizable transparency and brush size. The brushes can be transformed to the style of your choice - hard, blur, emboss, or opaque - depending on the effect you are after. There is a lush menu filled with all the controls that you need, which you can make appear or disappear by tapping on the screen three times. This comes in very handy for when you need more space to create your masterpiece but still ensures that the tools of your trade are never very far away.

Color Effects has a great variety of import and export options, allowing you to grab photos from almost anywhere and save them to almost anywhere. You can take a photo with the embedded camera, mangle the color scheme as you wish, and then immediately post it to Facebook. This app even allows you to work on multiple photos at the same time, and there is a quick preview mode to help you make sure you have achieved the desired effect before releasing it to the cruel world. Color Effects is a fun app that operates on an almost professional level to give you exactly the results you are after.

Color Effects comes in both a free and a paid version depending on your needs. Download Color Effects on the App Store. If you're looking for photo effects apps for the iPad, check out this article.
