Add a Splash of Life to Your Boring Room

Cheap, Easy Ways to Add Life and Color to Any Room

Lilah Lane
As visitors walk into your house, would you like them to be impressed? Of course you would! But not everyone has the hundreds, or thousands of dollars required to professionally renovate a room. You actually don't need a lot of money to make a room beautiful. These handy tips can help you to buy and make things that will liven up any boring room.

Cushions:
I can't think of an easier way to brighten up your room! By buying bright or eye-catching cushions, your room and furniture will look brighter, fun and expensive. You don't have to buy new cushions, you can sew on new patterns or beads and sequins to an old cushion. Bright and decorated cushions look best when they're squares, massive pillows will look tacky. Stay away from tassels. . .They're about 5 levels of wrong.

Rugs:
Rugs are a more expensive option for adding life to a room, but boy do they look great! You can pay hundreds for a beautiful rug, but you could also find a good rug at a steal. Your rug doesn't have to be a massive room centered one though, hall runners look great as well as cost a fraction of the price of normal rugs. Place hall runners down halls (obviously!) or you can place one under a table or chair.

Lighting:
If you have a beautiful room, but all the wrong lighting, what's the point? Choosing the right lamp or light can add that missing touch to a room. There are hundreds of different light covers and lamps you can choose from; a normal lamp, touch lamp, retro lamp, lava lamp. When choosing lighting think of two things: Is there a theme to your room? Do you want the lighting to stand out or fit in?

For a low cost option, buy a plain, cheap lamp that doesn't cost more than $20 and decorate it! You can make a new lampshade or lamp cover, or you can glue beads and other decorations to the original lamp shade. Just make sure not to cover the light bulb!

Art:
Art in your room can really brighten things up. You don't need expensive classics, take your own photos or paint your own pictures and frame them. If you have kids, use their artworks!

If you don't want a picture, you can create wall hangings or 3D pictures. One of my favorite ways to make a wall hanging is to grab a bunch of old fake flowers ,and thread them onto some medium sized string. You can add anything in between the flowers, like beads. It looks great and you can hang them anywhere - over windows, doors or in the kids room.

Anything that's a bit plain can be made over into something that's a piece of art. It doesn't cost much, and it's fun. Soon the room that always been just a plain room will be transformed into a room that's perfect for entertaining or have the perfect relaxing atmosphere.
