Addicted to Facebook?

Are you addicted to Facebook? You are not alone millions of us are addicted because it allows us to connect with friends and family. Why is this site so addicting? Is there a twelve-step program to get over the addiction? Is there a Facebook rehab?

With over 500 million daily users as of July 2010, it is one of the most popular websites on the Internet! It's easy to imagine that your status message could be seen across the world within minutes, in a language you cannot read. Be careful what you post, you never know if your grandma will see it. Also, watch the photos you post. Do you really want your grandpa seeing you in revealing clothes?

Worse yet, some woman across the world could be telling her friends you are her boyfriend, and we will not discuss what guys on the other side of the world are doing with your profile photo ladies! You may think that is odd, but with 1 out of 14 people in the world now using the website you have to realize that someone is not using Facebook for reasons other than what the rest of us are. The thought of this makes me want to remove all of my photos from my profiles.

Colleges, employers, and even whole countries have banned Facebook because of the addictive qualities of the social networking sites. Work of any kind is not done when people are catching up. It all comes down to personal control, which it seems many people lack, myself included at times.

Marriage and long term relationships have been ripped apart because of the site. Perhaps the relationship was not that strong to begin with, but that is another topic altogether. Nevertheless, is it enough traumas to make people remove their profile from the website?

This very morning I woke at 5:30 am and began my day of writing. As a freelance writer, I need to start my day early. Within a few hours, I had a great start to my day, but then I loaded up Facebook to promote some of my work. The next three hours were spent trying to write one article but I caught up with all my friends and family far and near. I ended up logging out of Facebook so I could continue working.
