Addictive Facebook Applications for Kids

Pandora Hall
Pet Society is a cute Facebook application geared towards kids. In this application, a completely unique character is made by each person who joins; there are so many possibilities that no two characters will ever come out the same. You can make your character male or female, and it can be given the features of a bunny, cat, bear, or anything else, the options are almost endless. The object of the game is to visit your friends and be active within your own Pet Society community on Facebook.

You personal Pet Society community is made up of friends on your Facebook page that also play the Pet Society application, or friends that you invite to join your community. Coins are awarded by completing tasks and being awarded trophies, visiting your friends, racing your friends at the Stadium, or by betting on a race at the Stadium. Each house starts out with 3 rooms and a garden. Each character's house that is decorated from the items that you buy in the shops or items that are sent as a gift by your friends.

Country Store is a Facebook application that is a bit more complicated than the other child-friendly Facebook applications. This application requires you to complete specific tasks to gain points, and you must grow crops and harvest them to make money. Money in this game is used to buy new seed types; you start out with only white radish seeds that become boring and make most kids as well as adults keep playing in order to have other possible crops unlocked. You can also visit your friend's farm and take some of their crops to sell at the country store and earn more money. Friends are other Facebook users that are sent an application invitation from you and have accepted it and currently use this application. For those impatient children and adults a fertilizer can be obtained that will help crops grow in minutes to hours instead of days. These points are only available by purchase with a credit card, through Paypal, or by your telephone bill.

The downside of these games is that points are required to get new items in each game. There are also special points, called Playfish points that can only be purchased, not earned, unless you want to fill out online surveys and receive annoying phone calls early in the morning or at night. There are also some tricky ways in which your money can be gotten; most of the quizzes labeled as free such as Find Your True Love, or which Simpsons character you are will send results of the quiz to your phone. Your phone will be charged a fee because submitting your phone number to receive the quiz answers also agrees that you accept the terms of a monthly debit from your telephone account.
