Adding Juice to the Menu at Restaurants

Shawn Thomas
Restaurants should have a larger beverage and juice selection in order to appeal to a wider range of audiences and increase revenues. The problem with most restaurants today is lack of juice from your typical drink choice. Many fast food restaurants do offer the ability to buy a sized glass such as medium or large and give you the option to choose which drink you will take. Often you can select between Pepsi or Coke and the diet variety of Pepsi or Coke, 7-up or Sprite or Sierra Mist, lemonade, and possibly a few other soft drinks.

Sit down restaurants also have problems with choice. Many restaurants will offer people the same soft drink and lemonade choice as is common at fast food restaurants. They usually offer free refills as well, but many times this falls short for people who are not looking to drink an alcoholic beverage and also want a drink that has health benefits.

Most soft drinks actually cause damage to teeth. They are very acidic and this can erode the enamel. Soft drinks also contain a lot of sugar which can lead to cavities. Therefore, filling up on "free" refills of soft drinks at restaurants is not the best choice for health savvy patrons. The only other real alternative for many is to drink water. While water is a great choice and everyone should get plenty in their diet, many people might want a different beverage to drink.

Some of my own personal beverages are juices. Many people feel that juice is only for breakfast or brunch but this is just not the case. Having juice for dinner often tastes for good and is refreshing. Juice is not a carbonated beverage like soft drinks. Even so juice often has many of its own problems. Juice cocktails which do not contain 100% juice can be high in high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup can lead to diabetes and excess weight gain when consumed in large quantities.

Thus the best choice of juice is 100%. This can have many health benefits and be high in antioxidants which help to strengthen the immune system. Many juices can be high in vitamins and minerals. Orange juice is high in vitamin C which is an essential nutrient required for all humans. My personal favorite popular juices are orange juice, apple juice, and cranberry juice. There are many other types of juices. Some juices contain a mixture of many different fruits and can make them very appealing to the taste.

Many people are a big fan of juice and prefer the health benefits. More restaurants should offer 100% juice on the menu and available to customers. While it may be more expensive than soft drinks, juice is healthier and can taste better.

Some restaurants have added juice options to their menu. They are sometimes used in combination with alcohol drinks to add taste and flavor. Jamba Juice, a popular smoothie joint has recognized the increasing popularity amongst the general population for juice.
