Adding a Website to Your Favorites and Making it Available Offline

K. Bennett
So, you have searched the Internet and finally found a great website that you don't want to lose. Adding the website to your favorites list will keep it in your favorites menu for easy one click access later on. You can also save the webpage in a way that allows you to view it even when you are offline. This is helpful when working on a laptop that may not always be connected to a landline or wireless network.

Adding a Website to your Favorites

To add a webpage to your favorites, first make sure that you are on the actual webpage you wish to save. If you want to save a specific page within a website navigate to that page. If you want to save in such a way as to have easy access to the entire website then make sure you are on the site's homepage. Next, click on the "Favorites" menu and then choose "Add to Favorites." This will open the "Add Favorite" dialog box. In the name field you can either use the name provided or you can choose to enter your own name for the website. Just make sure that the name is descriptive enough that you will remember which website the favorite link will take you to. Click "OK" to save the website or webpage to your favorites.

Accessing your Favorites

To access your favorites list, click on the "Favorites" button on the toolbar. This button is symbolized with a gold star. You can also use the "Favorites" menu to access your favorites. Either method will open a Favorites menu pane to the left of your Internet Explorer window. You can see the links to the websites you have added here. You can also choose to organize your favorites from this pane. Clicking "organize" will open the "organize favorites" dialog box. You can add folders to store similar websites, you can move website links into folders, move sites up or down the list and rename or delete favorites.

Making a Website Available Offline

To make a favorite website available for a time when you will not be connected to the Internet, click on the "Favorites" menu and then choose "Organize Favorites". This will open the "Organize Favorites" dialog box. In the "Favorites" list click on the site to make available offline. You will see information about the site pop up in the "Information" box. Check off the "Make available offline" box in the "Information" box. Then click "Close" to save this setting. Now when your computer is offline you will be able to access the website. The website will appear exactly as you saw it the moment you made it available offline.

Synchronizing Offline Websites

Simply making a website available offline is a great way to save news articles and other web pages that due to updates may not be available online in a few days time. But, what if you want to make a site available offline and you want to keep up with the updates? To do this you will need to synchronize the websites available offline with your computer when it does connect to the Internet. To do this, click on the "Tools" menu and then choose "Synchronize". Check off the boxes next to the offline web pages you wish to synchronize and then click "Synchronize". Now when you access the site while offline you will see the most current information.
