Additional Bodybuilding,Fitness, Figure Competition Items

Sometimes It's the Little Things that Matter

Lisa White ISSA & AFPA CPT
While your getting things together for a bodybuilding, fitness or figure competition the list of items may seem endless. Small tubes of this or bottles of that suddenly give the feeling that you're packing far too many things and will make you wonder if you'll really need it or not. While there are some things you'll realize you won't need for the competition there are also some not-so-obvious little items that may make you more comfortable in the end.

Sewing Kit or Safety Pins

No matter how well put together a posing suit is there's always the chance of your suit pulling apart somewhere.

Facial Mirror

The venue may not have accommodations for everyone to have their own chair and mirror. To prevent any makeup mishaps bring a small facial mirror. You can find one of these at nearly any store for a couple of dollars.

Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Benadryl

Dehydration, hunger and lack of sleep are often the culprits behind head aches on competition day. Though it may not be something you need; it's good to have on hand. Another item to have on hand is Benadryl. Every now and again the tanner can cause a reaction such as hives.

Beauty Supplies

If you plan to do your makeup at the venue be prepared with your favorite products but only bring what's necessary. Bringing your entire make-up vanity will not only take too much space but will be something else you'll have to lug around. Even if you put your make up on beforehand bring basics such as eyeliner, mascara and lipstick to freshen up before for the night show.

Vaseline

A small tube of Vaseline will suffice to use for your teeth when you go on stage. Cotton mouth is common from dehydration and with all the smiling you''ll be doing your lips may stick to your teeth. This makes for unattractive photos.

Toothbrush/ Dental Floss

With an ultra long day and dry snacks you may feel the need to freshen up and brush or floss your teeth.

Panty Liners

Extra panty liners will salvage your posing suit bottoms. Though the suits are small a pantyliner can be worn underneath and will protect the material from tanner in case you plan to re-sell your suit afterward.

Cash

Each organization has a federation card that will need to be purchased prior to the show or the day of so be sure to bring enough cash to cover the cost. Prices can be as high as $100 so don't come empty handed.

Antacid

Whether its Rolaids, Tums or Mylanta, an antacid may be needed for your post contest meal. After months of dieting on chicken, broccoli and almonds a meal loaded with grease and sodium is bound to upset your stomach.
