Addressing Your Target Audience Correctly - Three Tips to Niche Writing

Some Helpful Hints on Writing for Your Niche

While website articles should focus on a target audience, there are a few common mistakes that many writers make and you should ensure that you aren't in that group.

Listen to Reader Feedback

Many article writers make the mistake of ignoring their readers feedback because a large majority of it is nonconstructive and hateful. Because of this many writers miss a lot of information that could drastically improve their readers experience increasing page views, sales, or whatever else it is the writer is after.

Leave contact information on your website. A lot of writers are afraid of this because they will constantly receive spam and hate mail but the positive feedback they receive is well worth the trash mail you'll have to go through. Look for comments and statements made by your target audience. The internet is full of hateful and pointless people but if you are going to write for a specific niche then you need to listen to your target audience when they have something to say. Feedback that contains questions regarding understanding certain aspects of your writing or where to find specific features of your website provide crucial information that is invaluable in improving your audiences experience. This sort of feedback will provide you with what you need in order to improve your websites functionality or improve your writing to make it more easily understood by your target readers.

Speaking of your target audience, you should also ensure that you...

Write TO Your Target Audience

A lot of writers, especially those attempting to sell a product, fall into the same routine of writing about themselves, their product, and their company. While this is advantageous as you can extol the virtues of your product or company, this fails to incorporate the reader into what they are reading.

When selling a product you should be writing specifically to your target reader. The audience of your article should feel that you are speaking directly to them. Your sales copy shouldn't be filled with 'we' and 'us' comments, it should inform your audience of what you can do for them, how your services will fulfill their needs. Good car salesmen have been using these tactics for years, inquiring about the readers needs and wants and explaining to them how they can fulfill those specific needs. You should know the needs of your target audience and what you can do to fill that void. Don't write about what you or your company does in a general sense, inform the reader of how you will provide for their needs. Write TO them, not about yourself.

When writing to your target audience it helps if you know who that group is...

Cover All of Your Target Audience

Your target niche, depending on how narrow, will often contain more than one type of customer. You should always make sure that you are writing to everyone in that audience, not just a single part of that group.

If your company is actively trying to sell fencing and you write primarily to homeowners who may need a fence for their yard, this is positive and most likely a large portion of your customer base. This does not mean, however, that you should ignore other portions of your customer base. Your website and even individual articles should be used to inform all aspects of your target customer. Your sales copy should address businesses who are looking for fencing, apartment managers who need residential fencing for their units, and any others who may wish to use your services.

Ignoring other aspects of your audience just because they aren't the most significant portion of your target customer base can be extremely detrimental to your sales. Engross your readers and address everyone in your target audience to ensure that you are capturing every possible customer.

Using these tips will help everyone writing sales copy or articles for their web pages. When addressing your target audience following this advice will ensure that you are doing so in the best possible manner.
