All cars come with MAP sensors or MAF sensors, that are not adjustable. By having an adjustable sensor, you can tell your vehicle how much fuel to use. You can tell an adjustable MAP sensor to run richer or leaner. A car running rich burns more fuel. By being able to set your sensor to lean, you tell your car to burn less fuel. It tricks the computer to thinking it is still running rich and leans it out. When you set it to lean, you are telling the computer to lean the fuel out. Then the computer tells the spray, which sprays less gas. The chain of command so to speak, starts from what you adjust the sensor to, then the sensor tells the computer and the computer tells the injectors.
It is easy to understand and to install. There are three wires. First, the ground wire goes to the adjuster. Then take the 5-volt reference wire from the MAP sensor to the adjuster. Last, disconnect the signal wire from the MAP sensor and connect it to the signal wire. You will have a knob on your new adjustable sensor. Basically the richer it is set the more voltage is put out and the more fuel it burns. The leaner you have it set the less voltage it puts out and the less fuel it burns. You know if it is too lean and if you are not getting enough fuel if it spits and sputters, and you can simply re-adjust it.
You can buy one on line at an off road vehicle sight or now days with its growing popularity you can even find them on eBay. At the off road websites you may spend hundreds of dollars. On ebay you may find them as low as 30.00. There is no reason why the less expensive one won't work the same if you buy from someone with a little knowledge and some experience in the automotive field. They are worth the money you spend with the comparison of what you may save. They can not go through the emissions testing at this time because they are not government regulated. That is why they have just been sold to off road vehicles.
In 2009 the way we have thought in the past will of changed. We will no longer be able to afford to live the way we have been accustomed to without changes. This is just one way to make a big difference in our changing economy.
