Adopting Grace - the Story of Adopting a Ukraine Orphan

Susan Kaul
I have a friend named Phil. I met him on Tagfoot and again on Redgage. He is a wonderful man with a deep spirituality. He and his family are sincere people. His wife was web browsing and she found a blog with a post that caught her attention. In her own words

"Eighteen days ago I was feeding Kasia and reading some blogs when I came across a post that included short biographies about a couple orphans."

Well that was the beginning of a journey. The little girl named Grace has spina bifada.

A quote from WebMD.com says "Spina Bifada is a birth defect...It occurs when the bones of the spine (vertebrae) do not form properly around part of the baby's spinal cord. It can affect how the skin on the back looks. And in severe cases, it can make walking or daily activities hard to do without help."

Because this little girl is 31/2 years old she is still in the nursery type care at the orphanage, but when she turns 4 years old, she will be moved out of the baby house and placed in a mental institute, not because she has mental problems but because that is what is done with disabled children. She will be denied the medical care necessary to help her have as full a life as possible or even to be able to walk. And let's not even talk about being loved. She will live the rest of her life in a crib.

This is outrageous and unthinkable. My heart is breaking as I am typing this. We must do something.

Phil and his family are starting on this journey to adopt little Grace, bring her home and give her all the love and medical attention she needs. But they can't do it alone. they are doing everything in their power to raise the money needed to accomplish this task. Right now they are having a Lia Sophia jewelry party to help raise funds. And they have a donation button set up on their site.

You can go to their website and meet little Grace and read about the different steps of the journey they have taken so far and even continue forward with them. And please feel free to donate or purchase a piece of jewelry. Any little bit will help.

I appreciate all of you reading and helping in any way you can. And please pass this story along so others will Know about Grace.

Oh my gosh! Grace will lead a much longer and healthier life if she is loved by people - not stuck in an institution! I admire Phil for doing something like this and I am going to pass this article around!

You should have named this story "Amazing Grace" not for the child's name but the prospective parent's love for her :) Cheers!
