Adrienne Barbeau Says Jerry Lewis Not a Good Dad

Valerie Ferrari
Jerry Lewis and his recent statements that he would smack Lindsay Lohan, spank her and throw her in rehab, were discussed on "The Joy Behar Show" on September 7th, 2010.

Actress, Adrienne Barbeau (who recently began playing Suzanne Stanwyck on ABC's soap opera, "General Hospital") stated that from what she's understood from the real children of Jerry Lewis, "he was not a good father"

Jerry Lewis had 6 sons with his first wife, Patti: Gary, Ronald (adopted), Scott, Christopher, Anthony and Joseph (who passed away last year from a drug overdose). At the age of 66, Jerry Lewis also adopted a daughter, Danielle, with his current wife, SanDee.

Jerry's son, Gary, is actually the same age as Adrienne Barbeau (65). Gary Lewis was the lead singer of a popular group in the 1960s called Gary Lewis and the Playboys. They had a string of hits records beginning with "This Diamond Ring" in 1965. I don't know if Gary and Adrienne really know each other and whether Adrienne Barbeau came by the information that Jerry Lewis was not a good parent directly from Gary or any of Jerry Lewis' other children, or if she read about it in "The Globe." According to Tabloid Baby, Gary Lewis blamed his father for his brother, Joe's death in the Globe article, and is quoted as saying Jerry Lewis is "a mean and evil person."

Joy Behar said that Jerry Lewis is a "throwback to pre-Oprah days ... like before Oprah and Phil Donohue made it a really bad idea to hit children ... he doesn't get that, he's from that period, you know." Comedian, Richard Vos replied that the 84-year old comic was only using Lindsay Lohan to "try to be relevant."

Ben Lyons (contributor to Reserve Your Night.com) felt that Jerry Lewis definitely owed Lindsay Lohan an apology: "I think it is completely inappropriate for him to be so aggressive towards her ..." Ben felt Lindsay needs to be in a movie and working to get her life in order.

Adrienne Barbeau said: "I don't think he's worth even asking for an apology ... I mean, what does she care?" Adrienne did feel Lindsay Lohan needs some guidance, but not from Jerry Lewis.

At this point, Joy Behar said she wanted to put in "a good word" for Jerry Lewis and announced that over the 2010 Labor Day Weekend, Jerry raised nearly $60 million dollars for muscular dystrophy. She noted, however, that he also made some pretty off-color remarks:

Jerry Lewis said he can't eat half an egg without half of it landing on his shoulder, on his fly and in his shoes: "I don't understand it. I do understand no hanky panky anymore," Jerry says. "I have wonderful porno stuff that I watch a lot," he added slyly with his tongue hanging out of his mouth.

That pretty much explains everything, doesn't it? Clearly, Jerry's sense of appropriate boundaries is impaired and he shouldn't be left alone around Lindsay Lohan or any other young girl who doesn't have a frying pan around.

He doesn't owe and apology to Lindsay, she is a product of her parents two irresponsible people, the father is a jail bird and the mother wants to be on camera, she is living her dreams through her daughter, poor woman is dumber than a piece of wood , poor Lindsay, the whole family needs counseling.

    Even celebs have problems.

Why can't we all just get along?.....

I saw this on Joy Behar last night. You never know what might come out of his mouth. If I were his wife I'd be embarrassed by the comments he made. Take the mic away and give him credit only for his fundraising success!

Oh my- Jerry's going off the deep end now with some of his comments...

  • Jack Aiello9/8/2010

Agreed. He does great charity work with MDA every year, but he shouldn't be given the Mic anymore. Remember that gay slur he blurted out a few years back?

@Mark - the French loved Jerry Lewis back in the 60s because of The Nutty Professor. Nowadays, like lots of Americans when you bring him up, they think you're talking about Jerry Lee Lewis

  • Linda Louise Johnson9/7/2010

Jerry Lewis' only moments of greatness were with Dean Martin. But he has raised a lot of money for MD. Other than that as Mark said, who cares?
