Adult Ice Breaker and Drinking Party Games for New Year's Eve

Party games are important for any gathering. They're especially important if you're ringing in the New Year by having a party at home. At times adult partygoers may may have trouble unwinding or feel that certain games are rather lame. For this reason, the best games for adult New Year's Eve parties are ice breakers and drinking games.

Ice Breaker Games

One ice breaker is "The Name Game." Start off your party by writing down the names of famous people and story characters on Post-It notes. Have each party guest take a note and place it on his or her forehead. Each party guest must give clues to the others about the name on the note on their foreheads. You can also make a game out of New Year's resolutions. Have everyone write down one New Year's resolution on a piece of paper. They don't have to be real resolutions; the funnier they are, the better. Place all of the pieces of paper in a top hat and have each party guest draw one of them. (If you draw your own New Year's resolution, you must draw again.) Each party guest must then guess who wrote the New Year's resolution.

Drinking Games

A popular drinking game for New Year's Eve parties is Champagne Pong, which is a variation on Beer Pong. Arrange several cups of cheap champagne on a table and get a ping pong ball. Paddles are helpful but not required. Then assemble two groups of players. The players from each team must try to get the ping pong ball into the beer cups of the opposing team. Each time they succeed, the members of other team must drink those cups of champagne. The first team to cause the opposing team to empty all its champagne cups wins the party game.

You can also create a drinking game from a New Year's song. Find a song such as "Auld Lang Syne" that's appropriate for New Year's Eve. Assemble the party guests in a circle around a round table, each with the drink of their choice. Each party guest must sing one line from the song. The person to that guest's right must sing the next line. If any party guest makes a mistake in the song or sings at the wrong time, he has to take a drink. To make this game funnier, don't go over the lyrics or the tune before you begin playing.
