Sheep in the Big City - Well, this actually used to be a Cartoon Network cartoon, but I'd love to see it again. It's about a sheep that moves to the big city and has to avoid being captured by members of the Secret Military Organization who want to use him to power a ray gun. Sheep also falls in love with a poodle, which he is constantly trying to win the affection of. It may not seem like it would be that funny of a series, but it's actually pretty hilarious.
Daria - Daria was like a snarky blogger chick before blogging existed, and I secretly miss her drollness and cynical take on life in this satirical show, as well as the 'Sick Sad World' ads. Sharp-tongued Daria first appeared occasionally on 'Beavis and Butt-head' before getting her own show, and female fans especially embraced an animated series with an intelligent girl as the star. The show has been resurrected by a few different networks, but 'Adult Swim' hasn't touched it yet.
Stripperella - What's not to like about an animated version of Pamela Anderson (who does Stripperella's voice) as a stripper/secret agent in a series created by comic legend Stan Lee? There are only 13 episodes of this double-entendre-filled show, which contained blurred animated nudity and plots like Stripperella having to save models from being given implants that make them obese. Oh yeah, one of her archenemies is named 'Queen Clitoris'. So what are you waiting for, Adult Swim?
The Critic - I know I've probably seen every episode of this show thanks to the reruns on Comedy Central, but I just love all of the old movie references and kind of wish new episodes were being made.
Dilbert - I know Comedy Central already resurrected this show for a while, but it deserves another run. After all, it is the original 'The Office', with neurotic cubical dwellers suffering through a 9 to 5 prison sentence term along with their annoying coworkers, who all try their best to get as little work done as possible.
Sammy - Only a few episodes exist of this show by David Spade about the escapades of a TV star and his dysfunctional family.
The Tick - Superheroes have been very popular lately, so 'The Tick' definitely deserves yet another resurrection. Fans of Adult Swim's 'The Venture Bros.' would probably enjoy the show, because Tick creator Ben Edlund and the creator of Team Venture worked together on the projects. It's a fun cartoon about dysfunctional superheroes, taking Aquaman and turning him into Sewer Urchin, who is obviously patterned off of Dustin Hoffman's character in 'Rain Man', for example. I'd love to see this show again now that I'm older and could probably get a lot more of the jokes.
Beavis and Butt-head - Since Adult Swim will be showing 'King of the Hill', why not bring back Mike Judge's other successful creation? I didn't have cable during the heyday of Beavis and Butt-head, and their mind-numbing stupidity would be a great way to avoid being bored during insomnia episodes.
Father of the Pride - CGI animals have been extremely popular with kids lately, and this FOX show was ahead of the trend in 2004. Unfortunately, this show that revolves around the lives of a family of white lions in a Siegfried and Roy-type act suffered a bit because of the real-life near-death attack of Roy Horn. It didn't do well ratings-wise then, but I'd like to take a second look at it.
Gary the Rat - Adult Swim has one great courtroom cartoon with 'Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law', and they could have another with a cartoon featuring the voice talent of Kelsey Grammer called 'Gary the Rat', where he fittingly plays a man who has turned into a rat. The defense attorney struggles with trying to figure out how to change back into a human being while avoiding being exterminated. It's another short-lived cartoon that might be fun to see again.
Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man - Reruns of this weird cartoon used to come on Comedy Central. Jason Alexander did a great job as the voice of the Groucho-esque duck, and the episodes were always great for a good late-night laugh.
Betty Boop - She's the first adult cartoon star and still the best ever, and I'd love to see some of her surreal, sexual cartoons with great music and kooky characters on Adult Swim. After all, without Betty, the network probably wouldn't exist.
So, Adult Swim, I hope your New Year's resolution is to resurrect some of these great cartoons and to find some more great new ones, because I'm kind of afraid of the direction you've been going lately.
