CSI Party
Named for my favorite TV show, this party theme allows for multiple costume possibilities because not only does it cover crime scene investigators, but it also can include police officers, FBI agents, medical examiners, etc.
Invitation Ideas:
Cut out mini file folders from manila file folders. Write/type "CONFIDENTIAL" or "TOP SECRET" on the front. Enter party information on the inside.
Costume Ideas:
- Police Officer
- Coroner
- Medical Examiner
- Crime Scene Investigator
- Lab Technician
- Criminal
- Victim
Prop Ideas:
- Chalk outline
Use masking tape to create a "chalk" outline of a person on your carpet.
- Ransom note
Cut out words and letters from magazines to create a fake ransom note.
- Magnifying glass
- Test tubes and beakers
These items can be used to hold shots or drinks for guests-just make sure you have a place for your guests to set down the test tubes that won't make a mess.
- Fake body parts
- Fake blood
Dye white corn syrup with red food coloring and just a touch of blue.
- "Trace Evidence"
Place pieces of thread/fibers, hair or bugs in small clear jars/containers/zipper bags.
- Fingerprints
We pressed our fingers on an ink pad and then pressed them on the sticky side of clear tape. We were able to then put the "fingerprints" wherever we wanted and it was easy to clean up as well.
- Handcuffs
- Caution tape
- Microscope
- Fake mug shots
- Latex gloves
- Fake police reports
- CD containing theme music from cop TV shows
Superhero Party
Take your guests back to their childhood with this fun party idea.
Costume Ideas:
Give your guests the option to either come dressed as their favorite superhero or to create their own superhero (complete with powers, weaknesses and arch enemies).
Prop Ideas:
- "Secret Lair" sign on the door
- Superhero theme music
Toga Party
I know when you see "Toga Party" you immediately think of something from Revenge of the Nerds. However, I am not talking about a frat party; I am talking about something a little classier.
Costume Ideas:
Obviously, guests should come dressed in togas, however, I would encourage your guests to be creative and choose a fabric that represents them.
Food & Drink Ideas:
- Wine
- Grapes
- Dates
- Olives
- Cheese and crackers
Prop Ideas:
- Columns
- Ivy vines
Jimmy Buffett Party
This is your basic luau, but with an adult twist.
Costume Ideas:
- Hawaiian print shirts
- Straw hats
- Flip-flops
- Sarongs
- Leis
Food & Drink Ideas:
- Cheeseburgers (in Paradise)
- Margaritas
- Pina Coladas
Prop Ideas:
- Sand
- Palm trees
- Tiki torches
- Jimmy Buffett CDs
- "Welcome to Margaritaville" sign
- Sea shells
- Parrots
No matter what theme you choose, one thing I have found common through all the parties I've ever hosted or co-hosted is that my guests loved wearing hats. At some point during every party, the hat collection came out and all the guests were wearing hats, trading them for other hats and the like.
