While some of the sites I play on may seem "acceptable" in the work at home mommy community (Pogo for example), others may seem a bit "questionable". At least to THEM anyway. After all, why am I playing GAMES when I should be doing other "motherly" tasks? You know, cooking, cleaning, taking care of business....that sort of thing. I'm a mom, so I should be either working, cleaning house, or spending time with my kids. Mom time seems limited to watching TV with husband or taking a long bubble bath. Honestly, I don't care for either.
It's like a double standard. We don't look down on the husbands who sit and play GameCube with the kids, or think that teens shouldn't be spending so much time on the computer. Alright so maybe some think it "bad", but there's a lot that see this as completely acceptable. Yet when mom gets on World of Warcraft and it's "discovered" she is in fact over the age of 16, it's "disturbing" and "she has no life". Those games are for KIDS, not for moms!
Why? Of course we have no life, we have kids. What else would we be doing at that point in time? Watching TV? I'm sorry that I like to use my brain and can't let it sit idle even though my rear is still planted firmly in the chair. Especially when the kids are in bed, why can't I play games? Even when they aren't, it's not like I completely ignore them and other chores. Trust me, my kids don't like me enough to spend every single free moment of the day with them and I wouldn't be doing housework every single minute either. Just because I prefer to play games instead of watching TV that's BAD?
The big secrete is, over the years I've discovered I'm not the only one. I've met several moms who play RPGs (roll playing games) online, or other things that appear to be designed for older kids and teen. Oddly enough, most of the games we are looked down on for playing I will NOT let my kids play. In fact, even when they are older I'd prefer they'd be out doing some activity and enjoying their youth instead of sitting at home playing games.
So what's the big deal? Why can't mom play games too? Are you afraid she'd be better than you? *Evil Grin*

Right on Mom! This older Mom plays them too. I need the stressbuster late at night. I've even written an article on AC about some of the free sites.
