The group and one on one Experimental Fiction Writing classes have been a great success, a kind of glowing light flowing through the discussions, a sense of liberation from formulas that don't fit everyone. As the teacher, I've been amazed by the quality of the prose, the profundity of the concepts, and the bonds created with the students. I'm excited to be teaching this Advanced class through my own Academy online with Sclipio. Class starts Aug. 9th 2010 and goes for ten weeks. Anyone interested can sign up at Sclipio, or email me at flameflower@runbox.com for details. Experimental Writing tells more about it, including some words about my classes from students, and the site also includes lots of links to articles, has an exclusive Experimental Literature section you can read, and more.
Anyone working on short stories, novels, non-traditional screenplays, or whatnots is invited to workshop your projects in class, as well as write new pieces for assignments exploring outside the usual default elements of style and narrative. If you are wanting to gain a little experience before starting class, you can do some one on one coaching with me as well, to familiarize yourself with anything in Experimental Literature that you may feel shaky about.
Students can be anywhere in the world, as we don't have meetings at particular times. All you really need is a computer, and the price for the class, which is 435 dollars, which is less expensive than most similar courses. Classes in Experimental Literature are rare enough as it is, but an Advanced class is even rarer, so I'd like to encourage you to take advantage of this unusual offer.
I am an experimental short story writer, as well as poet, with over 100 publications of such in magazines, and am the author of Watching the Windows Sleep, from Naissance Press. My MFA is from Iowa, and I have taught writing in universities, and currently teach through UCLA Extension Writing Program. I have won awards for my Experimental Fiction such as two from Cezanne's Carrot. The students in the classes are excellent writers who care deeply about literature, so the feedback will be genuinely helpful.
