Advantages to a Closed Circuit TV System

Will You Be Safer?

Closed circuit TV (CCTV) systems have changed a great deal over the years. Long ago they were large, clunky systems that required technicians to set up, but now they can be small enough to hide inside a stuffed animal and as simply to set up and use as an average web cam. It is even possible view your location from a website via your computer or web-ready cell phone. As the technology has improved, the cost for these systems has decreased, so a person could purchase a good system for less than the cost of an alarm system.

There are a variety of uses for a CCTV system in the home and business. A CCTV system can offer a sense of security, which is one of the biggest advantages to having one in your home or business. In order for the sense of security to be real security, make certain you use the system and view the tapes or web images frequently. There are cases in which business owners have installed dummy cameras and employees, unaware that the cameras were dummies, felt falsely safe and reacted to events in ways they may not have if they had been aware there was no camera.

The system can also help you identify the people involved if any criminal activity should occur; a simple alarm can not do that. Most alarm systems only alert the police or property owner that someone has entered the premises and been unable to provide the proper code. An alarm can also generate a significant number of false alarm calls which, in some communities, can become costly.

If you are a parent who works away from home and use an in-home child care provider, a CCTV allows you to check in whenever you want to ensure things are happening as you would want them to. It also allows you, if you have a system that records the images, to look for suspicious behavior if something questionable happens to your child or in your home. As a business owner, a CCTV can allow you to check in on your employees or keep a constant watch over sensitive areas, such as a safe or entryways. Home owners have used them to monitor entries as a security measure superior to a simple peephole.

One Michigan business owner was finding his cash register receipts were not matching his evening traffic, so, after viewing his web-based CCTV system designed to monitor the shop and the register, he was able to pinpoint which of his employees was giving free items to friends and control product loss without leaving his home. There have been quite a few stories in the news about parents able to identify and stop abuse from care givers through their "nannycams". These are perfectly legal and legitimate uses for this kind of security system.

When deciding what kind of CCTV system you need, you first need to think about exactly what it is you are trying to see. Knowing how wide a view you want, how far you need to be able to see and what the lighting will be like will all help you decide which kind of camera and lens you will need. When you purchase your system, make sure you investigate the options and find the system that exactly meets your needs and your price requirements.

CCTV systems can offer peace of mind and convenience for parents, business owners and homeowners for very little cost and time.
