Advantages of Community College: More Time to Pick a Major

BS
Community colleges are becoming a more common choice among students. This is not because students are lazy and didn't work in high school or want to slack off in college. Choosing a community college does not mean that someone is dumb. Community college has a great deal of advantages, some that people may overlook when choosing a college. While the biggest and most obvious advantage for community college is the lower cost, another great advantage is that people who are unsure about college or what they want to study have a while longer to figure it out.

At eighteen years old not everyone knows what they want to do for the rest of their life. A lot of seniors still don't know whether or not they want to attend college at all. By choosing community college, students have a chance to try out something similar to university life and decide whether or not that's the place for them. This also means that there isn't a huge sum of money wasted on an unfinished education.

Even tougher than deciding whether or not they want to attend college is choosing a major. Young students aren't always sure what they want to major in. By choosing to attend community college before a four-year university, students will get a chance to get the basic classes out of the way and find something that they are interested in. They can spend a couple of years figuring out what they would like to major in while getting the mandatory classes out of the way. This way, students can focus on their major when they do move on to a four-year university. This is a major advantage to community college.

As if choosing a major wasn't difficult enough, students also have to decide what career they want. A great deal of majors have more than one career option. You can earn a degree in whatever major you want, but if you don't know how you want to use that degree, it doesn't do you any good. An advantage to community college is that students get more time to think about their future and explore their interests.

Students can try different courses in community college. Sometimes a student will think that they are interested in something, and find out after taking a class in that subject that it's not right for them. One of the best advantages to community colleges is that students get to take some classes and try out new things without such a huge price tag. This way, students can take some different classes and see what they would really be like at a university.

Community college has so many great advantages to students, but it is often labeled as less than great. It's important to make sure that students choose what's best for them without being influenced by the negative stereotypes.

Major are really an insignificant part of education. Students should concentrate on getting a good education. So many jobs nowadays require so much training that you almost get another major in on-the-job-training.

Community colleges rock! Really, they do. they are open to almost everyone and are a great way to get an AA degree for thousands less than university tuition. Great review of all of the benefits.
