Advantages and Disadvantages of RV Living: Part 2

Part 2: Disadvantages of RV Living

Tfurby
This is part two of a two part article where I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a RV or camper trailer. Living in an RV or camper trailer is not for everyone. There are many things to consider before you actually decide to take the plunge. In this article I will outline a few things that you might like to think about. Some may seem trivial, but believe me once you are living the life they wont seem so insignificant.

The biggest issue is the space. What seems like adequate room turns into a sardine can in as little time as a few months or even weeks.

Your possessions have to be kept to a minimum. Just the bare necessities that are absolutely needed to make life easier.

There is no privacy. You can close a door but sound carries. If you break wind in the bedroom , it will be heard in the living room. So will the smell...check the next observation on my list.

Bathroom odors(if you get my meaning, trying to keep it clean)will spread through the entire home. Keep the air freshener handy.

If you live in a RV park you have nosy, noisy neighbors that usually either have a dog that barks continually or they or avid heavy metal fans that want to share their music with the entire park.

Then there are the old couple(at least 80 if a day)that insist on running around the park wearing nothing but a speedo for him and a skimpy swimsuit for her(and she has breasts growing on her back...don't ask, I didn't).

There is no yard in which to plant flowers or a small vegetable garden, or to just sit outside under a shade tree and listen to the birds sing. Oh you can do that in the park, but remember the speedo? Takes away from the beauty of the moment.

The RV space that you are allotted is extremely small. The view from the front door is another RV about 10 feet away.

If your husband snores there is no escape. Sure you can go into the living room and try to sleep on the couch, but the living room is only 25 feet from the bedroom and it's just as loud there.

These are just a few little bits of information you must think long and hard about before you make a decision on whether living in a RV or camper trailer is for you.

My husband and I have been living in a camper for over four years now and it does have its advantages and disadvantages. I am not really sure which outweighs the other. There are problems in whatever lifestyle you choose. In our case we would not change a thing. We love our camper and all the little ups and downs that go along with living in it.

I could never live in a camper. Not enough room.
