Stainless steel tiles make an attractive addition to your home. They have a few advantages and disadvantages when compared to tiles made from other materials. This article will discuss some of these benefits and drawbacks.

Advantages

Resistance

One of the biggest advantages of stainless steel tiles is that it is resistant to heat and water. This makes them very suitable for use in the kitchen. These tiles also aren't susceptible to humidity, so they're useful in the bathroom too.

Durability

Another advantage of stainless steel tiles is that they're very durable. They won't rust over time and can last over 100 years. Although these tiles can stain, there is a very low probability of this happening if you take proper precautions. When you're done with them, you can even have them recycled.

Hygiene

You will also appreciate the fact that stainless steel tiles are also very hygienic. Made from metal, these tiles are non-porous so they won't harbor bacteria from food. Obviously, this is a useful characteristic for use in the kitchen.

Disadvantages

Temperature

As mentioned earlier, stainless steel tiles are resistant to heat. However, this also means that they will be very cold to touch. Therefore, you may not want to choose this type of tile if you live in an extremely cold climate.

Acid

Stainless steel tiles have a low probability of staining. However, acidic foods can cause damage to these tiles so you will need to clean up quickly after using them. Acidic foods that can be problematic include lemons, tomatoes, and oranges.

Damage

Stainless steel tiles can dent easily if not installed correctly. You will need to install a solid underlayer to prevent this from occurring. Also, you won't be able to use steel wool to clean the surface of the tile without causing damage.

These are some of the advantages and disadvantages of stainless steel tiles. They're resistant to water and humidity, so they're useful in the kitchen or bathroom. They also won't harbor bacteria like porous surfaces will. However, acidic foods will cause damage and the tiles will be very cold to touch in colder climates.
