Personally, I don't know why anyone would want to go through all of the expense and hassle of a big public wedding ceremony, but that's just me. I don't get NASCAR or golf, either, and apparently people dig those spectator sports, too. Keep in mind that weddings are a spectator sport (even if they are not regularly shown on ESPN). Therefore, it should be as less stressful for their spectators as possible - which, in turn, makes the Big Day not so big on stress.
You could have a low-stress, high-fun Big Day by deciding to have a Zombie Wedding , no matter what your religious inclination. Keep in mind that Zombie Weddings are not considered legal weddings (whether the couple is straight or gay). You will need to do a civil ceremony to make it legal, and then the Zombie Wedding can be just for kicks.
Formal Dress Not Required
One advantage of choosing a Zombie Wedding is you don't have to waste a lot of money on clothes you're only going to wear once and then stick in a closet for the rest of your life. Get some old dresses and suits and rip the crap out of them (if they're not damaged enough). Recycle some really old formal outfits for sale in garage or car boot sales or modify old Halloween costumes.
You don't have to have things match (or be in one piece) with Zombie Weddings. That means your wedding party can wear pretty much whatever they want, which is a lot of stress and money saved right there. You might want to let them know what kind of wedding you're having, unless you're having your wedding on April 1.
Being Healthy Not Required
Consider this story about the Fishers, a couple from Arizona who had to have their wedding in a hospital because the bride suddenly came down with severe migraines. You could have your wedding with a migraine when you have a Zombie Wedding. Wearing dark sunglasses, lurching around, moaning and vomiting would all be considered normal and appropriate behaviors. Right after the ceremony, you could disappear into the cobwebs and no one would ever realize that anything was wrong.
Have you been to a traditional wedding recently? By the time the groom and bride kiss, the guests are zombie-like, anyway. Remember Will and Kate's Royal wedding? Long before the couple's Big Day, bored Brits staged a Zombie Wedding in Soho Square as both a protest against the Monarchy and a really creative outlet of excess energy. Sadly, the Metropolitan Police didn't get the joke and organizers were arrested.
The Point Is --
The point is, sometimes we try to do things perfectly. We have this idea in our heads that a perfect relationship or a perfect wedding exists. It doesn't. If you want to celebrate your love (or announce to the world that you are off the dating market) then have fun with it and make it as imperfect as you can. This not only thumbs your nose at convention, but at the notion of taking yourself too seriously.
