Using raised garden beds can have many advantages. Raised garden beds can help you plant in areas of you yard that were not possible before. They are also a great way to plant a beautiful landscape when you don't have the proper soil, have time to maintain weeds and edging, and need better draining solutions for your garden. Here are several advantages of using raised garden beds.

Plant in Any Location

One of the best advantages to using raised flower beds is that you can create on in any location. Regardless of soil contents, weeds, compacted ground or even sloped areas. Building a raised garden beds allows for you to use spots that you couldn't usually garden in.

Because raised garden beds have they own soil and compost inside the bed, you don't have to worry about the soil below as long as it is safe. If the minerals in the soil isn't good for planting simply line the bottom of your raised garden bed with plastic, stone, or wood. This will help to prevent the roots from breaking into the ground soil. If you ground soil is healthy then till the area before creating your raised garden bed and allow them to break the soil.

Better Drainage

Another advantage to using raised garden beds is better water drainage. Using raised garden beds help to keep the soil loose and well-drained. Since you won't be walking through your raised garden beds to maintain them the soil won't become compacted like it will in traditional flower beds.

You will also be able to control the type of drainage and soil that it has. If you need a soil that stays moister and requires less watering then you can use a soil to meet those needs. If you need something dryer, well-drained and contains moss then you can do that to. You don't have to worry about the type of soil in your ground since you will be creating the bed with the soil you need.

Less Weeding

One of many fine advantages to using raised garden beds is that they require less weeding. Since the bed is raised and the bed soil doesn't come in contact with the grass or weeds next to it you don't have to spend near as much time weeding.

Grow More

Since raised garden beds are high enough that you can just walk around them while doing routine maintenance, you won't have to create rows in between for walking space. This will allow you to plant more in a raised garden bed then in a traditional ground level bed. And of coarse, the more you plant the more crop you will produce.

Focal Points

Does your landscape need some appeal? Looking for a nice focal point? Raised garden beds can be used to create focal points. Since they are built up high they create a distinct line between the bed and the lawn. They are a simple but elegant way to add a focal point to your landscape. You can use timber, stone, plaster, cement, or any other siding that will go well with your landscape

They Are Better for YOU!

One of the greatest advantages to using raised garden beds is that it's better for your back and other muscles, too! Since they are raised you don't have to worry about bending over pulling weeds. You will be at standing level so there is less strain on your body.

They are also great for senior citizens and people in wheel chairs. Since most people in a wheel chair aren't able to bend over and reach the garden the best method is a raised garden bed. They will allow them to wheel themselves up to the garden bed and perform the glorious tasks of gardening.

Nice job! I had a garden all in pots a few years ago and all of the plants really thrived.
