Adventure Vacations for Women Only

Twenty-five years ago, way back in 1982, Susan Eckert became founder of Adventurewomen, a travel agency geared towards adventure vacations for women, especially women with adventurous spirits. That was a leap of faith for Susan, because back then it was a little unusual for some women to admit they even had such a spirit, much less leave family and loved ones for any length of time and travel around the country or the world in pursuit of their dream vacation. Still today, most of the women are also looking for fellowship with others who share the same dream. Thankfully, times have changed and throughout the years, women have found it easier to wander away from home in order to refresh their body and soul without the feeling of guilt weighing them down.

Definition of adventure vacation

An adventure vacation is an experience or vacation that requires active participation and not just passive observing. Each adventure listed with Adventurewomen has a rating of easy, moderate, or high energy so the participant will know if the adventure is suited for their fitness level. The adventure rating also clues the women on how to prepare their mind and body ahead of time.

Why women only?

The founder, Susan Eckert, says it best. "Women in any culture relish the freedom to experience new things away from limiting social expectations. We have a unique sense of discovery, an unabashed curiosity, the easy ability to laugh at ourselves, and the capacity to create a non-competitive environment of support and encouragement for each other. Under these circumstances, women feel free to challenge themselves. On an all-women's trip, women tell us they can be totally and unequivocally themselves."

The ages of the participants range from 30-75 years of age, all wanting to learn a new skill or activity, while experiencing it away from any social or family responsibilities.

What is expected of the participant?

Since most of the participants already possess a spirit of adventure, chances are they will also meet the following requirements.
* Be flexible enough to adjust to circumstances as they happen. In other words, accept things as they are and not dwell on the negative.
* Be sensitive about the culture and feelings of your fellow travel companions that come from around the world.
* Possess a willingness to have FUN.

The philosophy of Adventurewomen has remained the same throughout the years. That is, the inclusiveness of all women who participate. All the guides and associates take the time and care to make sure every woman feels a part of the group, or adventure. Nevertheless, the man goal is to have fun no matter what level you begin your adventure.
