Adventures in eBay

I really do believe Ebay is a wonderful thing. Over the last couple of years, I bet I have made a few thousand dollars selling old clothes, books, and knick knacks. Anything and everything I am about throw out or donate, I can turn into quick cash. This past month alone, I have made $250. Now, that is clear money-after shipping and handling and ebay charges. Ok, so, it's not enough to make my mortgage payments, but it is still and extra $250 that I can do whatever I want with.

That, unfortunately, is the problem my husband and I have. Although, I can make all this money, I still like to spend it and it's just so convenient to spend it right back on ebay. There is ALWAYS a dvd or book that I want or my husband always needs a part for his remote control car or maybe even a new xbox 360 game. So, what I want to know is, are we really making any money? Or, are we just using the money in our paypal accounts to purchase new things that we may or may not need? It's like we are trading our son's Old Navy jeans for the newest Xbox game. Or trading a dress that I haven't been able to fit in since 1999 for a few John Cusack dvd's that I HAD TO HAVE!

My lovely husband was into these electric powered remote controlled cars that were extremely fast. The cars and trucks , alone, cost $300-$400 . That didn't even include the batteries you needed, which were another $100-$200 . They were fun to drive. They could get up to 70 mph. He was into this new hobby for a good 3 months, but then lost interest because he kept crashing them into things and tearing them up. The parts to fix the car were pretty cheap , but they DID add up. So, he quickly dispersed of the cars, batteries , and parts all on ebay. He made most of his money back , too, which was great . Now, he has used that money to fund his newest hobby...billiards.

My father in law recently bought a pool table for his home. He lives about an hour from us, but we still drive there EVERY weekend just so my husband can use the NEW poolstick(S) he bought on ebay. He got phenomenal deals on both of them. In stores, they would have cost him over $500, but found 2 that he liked and payed about $400 for both of them together! He even got 2 cases! All I can say is thank GOD for ebay. Instead of shelling out all the cash, he reinvested his remote control car money into this new hobby.

I know it is ok and I will continue to ebay, and yes, ebay is now a verb. It's not just a website any longer, it is a way of life.
