In the South of Europe, on the Balkan, in Macedonia, a small country with lots of mountains with great beauthiful landscapes. One of those mountains is Mountain Baba, which is in the southwest of Macedonia, near the city Bitola.
History & Tradition
Mountain Baba has many great peaks, but the best is peak Pelister which is also the highest peak on mountain Baba 2601(m. above sea level). Pelister is one of the best tourist attraction, especialy on the 9,10 and 11 may. Thousends of people climb Pelister on the memorial march for Dimitar Ilievski "Murato", the best mountain climber in Macedonia, that has been the first person from Macedonia to climb "on the top of the world" mount Everest in 1989, but unfortunatly on the way back died. On Pelister there are 2 mountain lakes called Pelisterski Oci(Pelister's Eyes).
There are a couple of places to spend the night in:
-Molika Hotel (1420m) is a beautiful mountain hotel
-Kopanki Hut (1600m)
-Golemo Ezero hut (2218m)is placed on the shore of Golemo Ezero (Large lake).
Discription
Almost trough the whole year Pelister is covered in white snow, and there is often a lot of fog which makes it very hard to climb, however it is worth the risk, Because on the top of the mountain it is simply brilliant. Pelister also has hiking trails, which are very dangerous, but it is most popular for it's skiing center, because almost the whole year it is covered in snow. There is a beautiful Pine cone Forest and there is also a lot of wildlife on Pelister, there are Bears, Wolfs, Deers, Rabits, Snakes, Eagles, Chamois, Lynx. If you want to spend a good time with your friends, without much danger, you can go mountain climbing on Pelister in the summer when there is no snow and fog, but if you have an adventurous heart, you can go hiking or mountain climbing in the middle of the winter which is very dangerous and needs special preparations, because in winter there is 10m+ snow cover and you can fall in the snow easily.
