Mount Abu is the only hill Station in the State of Rajasthan in India that attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world. The foreigners visiting Mount Abu are to the tune of around 11% normally, but goes as high as 21% during the peak winter season. Americans visit Mount Abu on regular basis as most of the Americans are fond of adventurous hikes in such a lovely hill station. Mount Abu is one of the most favorite places for the mountain climbers and trackers. However, there are immense possibilities of long adventurous walks here at Mount Abu. One such adventurous hike is to reach sunset point from the Gayatri temple on the Shore of Nakhi Lake.

The tourists normally reach sunset point from the normal walking route that consists of the asphalt road and takes around forty five minutes to one hour to reach to sunset point from the main market area. However, the tourists who wish to reach sunset point in shorter time and are prepared to take up the adventurous hike through the Arvalli Mountains, there is one short cut available for them. I was able to locate this shortcut during my latest visit to Mount Abu and could reach sunset point in only around half an hour using this adventurous hiking route. This route starts from near the Gayatri Mata temple on the Nakhi Lake. You need to take left hand side turn from the main gate of the Mahatma Gandhi garden, which is situated at the bank of Nakhi Lake. You will pass the famous Raghunathji temple, way of hike to tod rock, Hanuman temple, and would reach Gayatri Mata temple in around five minutes. There is an old sign board indicating this route near the famous Gayatri Mata temple. The route is full of steep climbs and adventurous walks all through the thick and dense forest. It is not advisable to use this route if you are not in a group of at least around five to six persons. This is in view of the hazard of the wild animals in this forest. You also must carry a strong stick with you in your hands. This stick would be helpful while walking also and would provide adequate protection against the probable attack of the wild animals. We went through this hike in a group of around ten people and were able to reach the most remote spot from where the breathtaking view of the Arvalli Mountains and the entire near by area is available to the tourists. This view is not available to the tourists who reach sunset point through normal route passing through the main market area. The same route can also be utilized for returning quickly back to the lake from Sunset point. However, make sure to complete your journey in day time only as it is not advisable to use this trail during dark.

This experience of hiking filled us all with the sense of deep satisfaction of some personal achievement and we were proud of ourselves that we were able to complete this slightly difficult hike without any major problems. This feeling encouraged me to recommend this special hike to all my AC friends and readers who visit Mount Abu in India. It is suggested to carry the supply of drinking mineral water bottles with some very light snacks like biscuits and wafers with you during the hike. The walking tennis shoes are also a must while taking up this special hike at Mount Abu. The weak, aged and unfit persons should not attempt to take up this hike. It would also be better to hire government approved guide services during this special hike. Such services are available at the rate of around Rs.300 ($6) per trip. I am quiet confident that this small but adventurous hike to sunset point from the Gayatri Mata temple on Nakhi Lake would prove extremely enjoyable experience to all the adventures loving tourists like us.

That is the reason I am strongly recommending this hike to all the tourists visiting Mount Abu. Would you be the one to try this hike during your next visit to Mount Abu?
