Adventurous Ways to Workout for Thrill Seekers

Stacy J. Day
To many people, exercising is a task, something they must force themselves to do, but by adding in a bit of adventure, you can make keeping fit healthy and fun. Forget the exercise bike, elliptical or treadmill, because if you're an adventurous person who is tired of the same old mundane ways of exercising, there's no reason to fret. After exploring the fun workouts in this guide, you should be a lot more motivated to exercise and stay in shape without dreading your next visit to the gym.

Spelunking - If you're not claustrophobic and don't mind dark places, you might want to give this sport a try. Spelunking, or caving, is a sport that enables you to explore caves while simultaneously getting a great workout. It doesn't matter which caves you choose to explore, and the states where spelunking is most popular are Kentucky, South Dakota, West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Hawaii and Indiana.

Skiing - By choosing a ski resort in Canada as opposed to the U.S., you stand the chance of encountering substantially less crowds, therefore enabling you to dedicate more time to actually skiing instead of waiting in line. Of course if you stay in the US, skiing can be just as thrilling, only you'll most likely have to wait in agonizingly long lines since skiing is a lot more popular in the United States.

Mountain climbing - Although mountain climbing is a great way to workout, it's also dangerous if you aren't already in shape. As long as you have your muscles adequately prepared, mountain climbing can be one of the best and most thrilling workouts you can participate in. Some great places to mountain climb are Joshua Tree National Park in California, City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho, Smith Rock in Oregon, and many other destinations around the world, if you're going to be traveling.

Hiking & backpacking - While hiking through the woods may not seem too thrilling, if you choose the right places to hike, you can have yourself a real adventure while simultaneously getting fit. Some perfect places to hike are: The Great Smoky National Park in Tennessee, Crow Hill in Washington, and various Alaskan destinations.

Scuba diving - Swimming doesn't compare to scuba diving, because with scuba diving you get to experience an underwater wildlife adventure as you workout. You'll be in awe as you watch the sea come to life. You'll see coral reef, various types of fish, plants and much more. Florida and Hawaii are some especially good scuba diving destinations.

Kickboxing - If you like boxing and kicking then you're apt to enjoy kickboxing. Not only is kickboxing a great way to workout, it is also a great way to relieve stress as well. If you're interested in learning to kickbox, your local yellow pages should direct you to classes in your area, or you might choose to buy some kickboxing videos. There are also many helpful kickboxing books, if you enjoy reading.
